PURPOSE: The members of the Yampa Valley Stream Improvement Charitable Trust (YVSICT) in cooperation with the Yampa Valley Fly Fishers chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU), invite you to beautiful Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley to join in a fun, two-day Golf and Trout Fishing fund raising tournament . YVSICT and TU are not-for-profit organizations which donate the proceeds of this and other wor

thy fund raising projects to the preservation and improvement of coldwater fisheries in the Yampa Valley and Northwest Colorado. For over 30 years the Trust has been instrumental in many of the major improvement projects along the Yampa River. YVSICT has worked the past several years on improvments to the Chuck Lewis S.W.A. Enjoy the benefits of their quiet work, and support the Trust where you can! Annual Golf Trout Tournament:

Teams from across the country gather in Steamboat Springs, CO for an annual fundraising competition that combines golf and fly fishing. A two day event across Routt County on stretches of public and private water, the use of which has been donated by owners. See our "Notes" page on Facebook for a description of waters used in past events. Some waters have Helicopter Rides to their locations that teams can bid on! On The first night of arrival, teams check in and then start the bidding process for their waters they will fish the next day. The bidding process sets the stage for the entire event! Bidding is fast and furious and everyone has fun! Teams score points for the number of fish, size of fish and diversity of species caught. All teams are escorted by a professional fishing guide from the Yampa Valley. The day is followed by dinner and a raffle. Golf is next where the teams do their best to win rounds of golf at a local golf club. Proceeds of the tournament have been put to work leveraging grants to carry out habitat improvements the stretch of the Yampa River in the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area. The tournament has raised more than $50,000 a year for the last three or four years and each year, The Tournament presents a $5,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who is interested in studying fisheries biology, water conservation” or another related field. There are also several sponsorship opportunities available.

The 20th Annual Golf Trout Tournament - Sept. 8, 9 and 10, 2023

COST: Registration for the entire weekend is $1,000 per participant or $4,000 for a team of four. Entry fee covers the actual costs of the event and is not tax deductible.

PURPOSE: The Yampa Valley Stream Improvement Charitable Trust (YVSICT), in cooperation with the Yampa Valley Fly Fishers chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU), invite you to beautiful Steamboat Springs and the Yampa Valley to join in a fun, three-day Golf and Trout Fishing fund raising tournament. THE EVENT: The Golf Trout Tournament kicks off Friday evening with great swag, refreshments and appetizers at the Lake House at Catamount Ranch. During the evening there will be a live auction for some very special water after which teams will be paired with their guide to assess equipment needs and winning strategies. This is just the start of two fun-filled days of fly-fishing and golf.
Saturday consists of a full day of guided fly fishing on some of Steamboat Springs’ most exclusive private trout water, where teams of four with their guide will compete for top honors in the fishing category. Lunch is provided by Yampa Sandwich Co. After fishing, teams will meet for a festive evening including food, fun, beverages, silent auction and bucket raffles at the Three Peaks Grill in Steamboat Springs.
Sunday the teams and their guide will meet at the award-winning Robert Trent Jones II Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club for 18 holes. Golf commences with a shotgun start, using a “scramble format.” Coffee and pastries will be served before the golfing, with lunch provided at the course. Following the golf portion of the tournament, the final awards and prizes will be presented.

Updated 2021 Golf Trout Tournament- Schedule of Events

Friday, September 10TH
Arrive early and fish the Yampa River Thursday evening or Friday morning to tune up (river conditions permitting). Bucking Rainbow Outfitters (970) 879-8747, Straightline Outdoor Sports, (970) 879-7568 and Steamboat FlyFisher, (970) 879-6552, three local sponsoring fly shops, can assist with current fishing conditions and fly selections. Don’t forget to mention the tournament when calling.
Update - Official check-in and registration is from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on The Green at Yampa River Botanic Park (1000 Pamela Lane). Refreshments and appetizers (contributed by Paramount Catering) will be provided (beer is complementary and provided by B&K Distributing). Thank you! There will be a cash bar for limited choice of cocktails and wine. Swag bags will be picked up at entry. Members of the YVSICT and TU will be on hand, along with the guides, to assist participants with any questions and to welcome teams to the event. As The Botanic Garden is an outside venue, we suggest you bring a rain jacket and sweater. There is limited parking available at the Botanic Park and car-pooling is strongly recommended. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the Green. Please advise in advance if you request assistance.
The Botanic Garden closes at 8:00 pm. The Park has no outside lighting.
The water auction and team selection will begin at 6:00 p.m. A preview of water descriptions and guides is attached.
Mulligans for golf will be available for purchase - $25 each, limit two per player, one per 9 holes. Update - Public Water upgrade will be available, water conditions permitting, for $500.

Saturday, September 11Th
Each team will meet their guide at a time and location agreed on. Fishing officially starts at 8:00 a.m. and runs until 4:00 p.m. depending on current conditions. We will keep you updated as to any changes to fishing times due to river conditions/low water. Fishing will stop immediately if water temps hit 70 degrees.
Your guide will be the official judge and scorekeeper. Your guide will bring lunch (provided by Yampa Valley Sandwich Company). Official score cards will be turned in to the tournament directors by 5:30 p.m. at Three Peaks Grill. Saturday Dinner at Three Peaks Grill – per the restaurant’s protocol, picture ID and proof of vaccine or negative covid test within 48 hours is mandatory for everyone.
Cocktail hour starts at 5:30 at Three Peaks Grill, 2165 Pine Grove Road, Steamboat Springs, with dinner service between 6:15 and 7:30. Liquid refreshments will be served (beer is complementary and provided by B&K Distributing, cash bar for cocktails and wine).
During dinner, the day’s scoring for the fishing portion of the tournament will be announced.
Mulligans for golf will be available for purchase - $25 each, limit two per player.
Spouse /significant others are welcome for dinner – suggested donation for each guest is $60 (our cost).

The day begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Rollingstone Golf and Ranch Club (1230 Steamboat Blvd.) where pastries and coffee will be served (complimentary of Alpine Insurance Brokers.) During coffee, teams will be able to hit some practice balls and purchase “Mulligans” that may come in handy in the final scoring. At 9:00 AM, we will tee off with a “shotgun” start using a scramble format. On the course, opportunities exist to compete for the longest drive and closest to the pin and other fun events.
Club Rules, will be enforced, including the dress code which prohibits “denim jeans with excessive holes or tears, bathing attire, gym or running shorts, tank or halter tops, non-golf tees or mesh shirts. Men must wear proper golf attire and collars must be present on sleeveless shirts. Traditional style golf shoes with golf spikes are permitted or a flat soled tennis shoe.” Food, beverages or ice chests may not be brought onto the property at any time.
Lunch will be provided and available from 11-3 at the Fish Creek Grille.
Following the golf competition, winners will be announced and awards presented.

Dear Golf Trout Participants and friends:

We are very sorry, but due to the current circumstances surrounding COVID -19,
and in order to protect the health of our community, participants, and volunteers, the Yampa Valley Stream Improvement Charitable Trust and the Yampa Valley Fly Fishers Chapter of TU, have made the difficult decision to postpone the 18th Annual Golf Trout Tournament scheduled for September 11, 12, and 13, 2020. We are committed to a safe and healthy Golf Trout Tournament, and look forward to a bigger and better tournament in 2021. Our plan is to reschedule the event for September 10, 11, and 12 of 2021, and we hope you will join us.
