β€œA coalition of organizations, tribes, utilities and governments from across the Colorado River basin is asking the federal government for at least $2 billion to address the near-term impacts of the escalating drought and water supply crisis in the West.” Read more about the funding request from the Steamboat Pilot below.

Right here in the Yampa Basin, UYWCD helps local projects keep moving forward when federal funds are unavailable. In 2025, the District awarded nearly $500,000 to support local projects that protect our water supplies, improve watershed health, and educate our communities. The UYWCD has already awarded $200,000 to local projects in 2026. To learn more about UYWCD grant programs or the projects we support, visit https://www.upperyampawater.gov/grants.

How are recent storms impacting the basin? The Yampa Basin is now in the 3rd percentile for snow water equivalent, but warm temps are melting the existing snowpack quickly.

Have we reached the new peak runoff at just below 1000 cfs in the City of Steamboat? Or will flows continue to rise after an 85 degree afternoon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t forget to follow the flows throughout the basin at youryampariver.org.
