YES for Stanwood-Camano Schools Helping to build our Schools by connecting our Community

02/14/2026

Based on the preliminary results, our levy is receiving majority support. While a few remaining ballots are still being counted, we are grateful for the strong community engagement and the shared commitment to safe, well-maintained learning environments for students and staff.

We recognize that this vote was not taken lightly. Voters weighed household budgets, personal priorities, and community needs — and chose to invest in essential safety upgrades, facility improvements, and long-term stewardship of our schools. That trust is meaningful, and we take it seriously.

It is also important to remember what this levy represents. These locally approved dollars stay local and are dedicated specifically to safety and infrastructure needs. Unlike state property taxes, which are set at the state level and often increase annually, this levy is a set, voter-approved dollar amount. It does not increase each year beyond what voters authorized, and it provides local control over how funds are used to address capital needs that state funding does not cover.

Money from the state primarily supports “basic education” — staffing, instruction, and student services. Capital improvements such as roofs, HVAC systems, security upgrades, and major facility repairs are generally not funded by the state. That is why school districts across Washington rely on local capital levies to maintain safe, functional schools for students.

Because of your support, the district can move forward with planned investments that help keep our schools safe, reliable, and ready for learning. These improvements protect instructional time, reduce costly emergency repairs, and extend the life of our public facilities.

With voter approval comes a clear expectation of accountability. Our district already undergoes annual independent financial audits. We also publish a Citizen’s Guide (https://www.stanwood.wednet.edu/departments/fiscal-services/budget) to provide a clear, easy-to-understand overview of how taxpayer investments are used. In addition, we will continue to provide regular project updates so our community can see how levy funds are being spent and the progress being made.

From this week's Friday Family Message: "In school district elections especially, outcomes are determined by those who show up. Ballots that are returned become part of the official record. Ballots that stay at home do not. In low-turnout elections, that difference matters.

"If your ballot is still sitting unopened or if your completed ballot is still sitting on a counter, desk, or car seat, there is still time to participate. A few minutes is all it takes to ensure your voice is included in this decision."

Read more from the Superintendent's message here, and please take the time to vote. https://www.stanwood.wednet.edu/fs/comms-manager/view/cc7571a1-1d2a-413a-9419-290bee427723

UPDATE: We hope to see you on Friday and Saturday, February 6 and 7, for sign waving.

Friday is at the corner of 68th and 284th across from Cedarhome Store from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday is at the corner of 532 and Marine. Meet at the Viking Village parking lot. Waving will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

Today's the day for mail! If you haven't mailed your completed ballot (no postage required), make sure you do so by the end of Thursday, Feb. 5. Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, and a same-day postmark isn't guaranteed, so sooner is better.

After Thursday, Feb. 5, please be sure to use a dropbox. They are convenient, secure, and open until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Learn more about the levy and see local dropbox location info at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/levy.
