Stafford Schools Military Families

Stafford Schools Military Families Recognizing frequent moves, we also focus on creating safe, engaging, and welcoming environments to mitigate the impact on academic achievement and well-being.

The purpose of Military Families Advisory Committee is to advise the School Board concerning community perspectives about the school division's military families, their moves to and from Stafford, the supports required, and the Purple Star program. The Military Families Advisory Committee is dedicated to advising the School Board to ensure meaningful post-secondary outcomes for every DoD, military-connected, and veteran family student, acknowledging the challenges of their transient lifestyle. Through tailored advice in academic support, comprehensive transition assistance, and access to specialized resources, we equip students with resilience and adaptability for success post-graduation, regardless of location. Guided by these goals, the committee will develop and present the School Board with targeted initiatives promoting academic excellence and inclusive communities within our schools.

Great ending to our Purple-Up Week with a Purple-Up Breakfast at Margaret Brent Elementary School.

Our guest speaker, Col Juliet Calvin, Commander of the Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group (MCCOG), and two MBES Alumni Student winners, Cole N. and Sadie N., of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3103 essay scholarship followed by a reading of the Proclamation by Military Family Advisory Committee (MFAC) Chair, Mrs. Carrie Weir. Our gracious hosts Mrs. Laura Hoover, Mrs. Lisa Duncan, Principal Scott Elchenko and MBES Staff were amazing. Hartwood School Board Representative Shannon for Hartwood and MFAC Committee Vice Chair Dr. Don Mathes, and MFAC Member Isabel Elizabeth/VFW Youth Activities Chair, along with American Legion Auxiliary Unit 290 - Stafford VA Junior Auxiliary Member Lea W. helped to greet attendees and handed out Purple Ribbons in honor of this Proclamation. Scouting America Members Cynthia R. and Will W. also assisted with greetings and distribution. Miss Nora H. greeted families with Purple beaded necklaces. Marine Corps Honor Guard presented the colors while Miss Eleanor C. conducted the Pledge of Allegiance. VFW Youth Scholarships Chair Pressley Carr greeted attendees and shared information about the scholarship program. Quantico Military Liasons Barbara Hawkins, Penny Rowley, and Amanda who offer their support and assistance with the Purple Star Designations for SCPS.

Thank you to everyone whom attended. It was great to see many families for this annual event!

April is the Month of the Military Child. This is a time to honor and celebrate the resilience, strength, and sacrifices of military-connected students. As a reminder, please wear purple tomorrow, April 15 on Purple Up! Day to support our military families!

These students navigate unique challenges, from frequent moves to time apart from loved ones, all while continuing to learn, grow, and thrive. We are proud to support and celebrate our military families and thank them for their service to our community and our nation.

The School Board presented the Month of the Military Child Proclamation to Carrie Weir and Dr. Donald Mathes.
