PlantingScience

PlantingScience Botanical Society of America led science education program bringing scientists, students and teachers together

PlantingScience was launched with a start-up grant from National Science Foundation. The program is of no cost for science teachers. The program supports teachers as one means of tackling our acute need for improved science literacy on a local and national scale. Recognizing that science and innovation are critical in ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future, the BSA developed PlantingScience

as a direct response to a challenge from The National Academies to become leaders in supporting inquiry-based Science, Math, Engineering and Technology Education (STEM). PlantingScience is designed to facilitate three core concepts recognized by the National Research Council to facilitate learning: hands-on, inquiry-based science; peer-to-peer dialog and team learning; mentorship support from topical experts.

High School Teachers! The Young Botanist award is now open for nominations! This is a great way to support a graduating senior with a passion for plants.

The 2026 BSA Young Botanist Awards are now open for nominations!

These awards honor outstanding graduating seniors in botanical science and encourage their continued engagement with the Botanical Society of America.

Top nominees receive Certificates of Special Achievement, complimentary BSA student membership, and recognition in the BSA members’ newsletter, on the BSA website, during the 2026 Social Media Awards Blitz, at the Botany 2026 awards ceremony, and in Plant Science Bulletin.

This is a wonderful way to recognize the hard work of graduating seniors and showcase them to the broader botanical science community.

Deadline: April 1, 2026

I mean... how can you go wrong with a plant-themed homage to Stranger Things that you can feel good about buying, because it supports the BSA (and, by extension, PlantingScience)? Don't be a stomata-breather (?) Go snap one up for yourself before they sell out!

We 💚 the Stranger Plants—and now they’re on !

From wacky blooms to botanical oddballs, these Stranger Plants shirts celebrate some of the strangest plants we love. Each design, illustrated by BSA’s own Catrina Adams, features bold plant illustrations on the front, with a “concert-style” back listing all featured species by their common and scientific names.

BSA members with a membership expiration of 2026 or later can receive a 10% discount—just email [email protected] to get your code.

Don’t miss our cozy beanies and BSA logo shirts, too.
