Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN): “Why in the world have we not passed the dadgum SAVE Act?… It really does three things: it says you have to be an American citizen to vote. Dadgummit who would be against that?”

“Another thing it says is that when you register, you have to show some kind of ID that verifies you are an American citizen. A passport, a birth certificate, or something.”

“It requires states to clean up their voter roll.”
