Statement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The City of St.

Clair Shores recognizes that our residents, our businesses, and our employees are the most important resources we have on which to build an equitable, sustainable and inclusive community. As a city government, we pledge to treat everyone fairly, respectfully, and without bias, regardless of their color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, marital status, familial status, immigration status,

sexual orientation, age, income or disability. Our goal is for people of widely differing backgrounds to do more than to simply live next door to one another. We value the contributions that each makes to our community so the challenges of today can be addressed, and the opportunities of tomorrow are realized by all.

Did you know the answer to this week's trivia? What is the name of the St. Clair Shores Historical Commission's publication?

Answer: .... D) Muskrat Tales!

Why was it called Muskrat Tales? Well, the first publication in 1981 states, "although still seen occasionally today in the rivers and marshes of this area, muskrats were once very plentiful in this area. Their fur was valuable and the meat a delicacy. The name, often pronounced 'mushrat,' became a term of endearment used amongst the descendants of the old families of this area. They would say, partly in French and partly in English, 'How does it go, you mushrat you?' "
