Florida National Guard

Florida National Guard This is the official page for the Florida National Guard. Augustine organized their first company of citizen-Soldiers.

The Florida National Guard traces its heritage back to 1565, the year the Spanish founders of St. Florida’s militia has defended local communities for over 440 years. Consistent with Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, Florida’s Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen continue to serve in units from the Panhandle to the Keys. Today, Florida Guardsmen are involved in hundreds of community service pr

ojects across the state each day. Many serve in disaster relief operations, helping residents recover from natural disasters. Others train or serve in critical national defense positions throughout the nation and overseas deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan supporting operations in the war on terrorism.

The Florida National Guard’s 114th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron recently held its final formation ceremony, marking the end of 34 years of service to Florida and the nation.

Since its activation in 1989, the 114th evolved to meet the demands of an increasingly complex battlefield. The squadron provided critical satellite communications during Desert Storm, conducted range operations supporting space launches at Cape Canaveral, and later deployed worldwide to disrupt adversary satellite communications.

As the squadron transfers its mission to the U.S. Space Force, the occasion marks both a transition and a moment to recognize its contributions. Although the unit is closing, its legacy — built on a culture of trust, dedication, and service — will continue through its Airmen, who are carrying the 114th’s fighting spirit into new roles across the Florida Air National Guard and the Space Force.

"To the men and women of the 114th, past and present: Thank you for your unwavering service and sacrifices. Your legacy is secure. Job well done."
