Food Not Bombs is meeting next Monday, October 26 at 6:30pm in the Bicentennial Room of Lincoln Library (on the 3rd floor). We'll be reflecting on our recent past events, solidifying upcoming events, and discussing any other topics while looking ahead.

If you're already ready to jump into the mix with our mutual aid work, we still have 3 more shares this month that we need help with! Two are this week. See links for more info.

Produce Share no.2 of 3 this month!
Next Saturday, October 24 at 4PM, we'll be back inside First Presbyterian Church to share free produce and basic needs supplies with the community.

The next three Saturdays, we are sharing produce at 3 different locations!

As the No Kings Rally takes place at the capitol on Saturday, October 17, we'll have our tables of free produce from noon until 2pm, or until the produce is gone. Join us, and support community materially!

Bring your friends, sing your favorite song, listen to other's favorites, and enjoy some light refreshments.

$5 suggested donation/pay what you can, but we will not turn away those who can't donate. Donations go toward Food Not Bombs' mutual aid supplies for free food shares.

A grocery store downtown?

🛒 Grant opportunity: Bringing fresh food closer to home

Every Springfield neighborhood deserves easy access to fresh, healthy food. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is now accepting applications for Round 3 of its New Stores in Food Deserts program, part of the Illinois Grocery Initiative.

The program will award a total of $20.8 million, with individual grants of $500,000 to $5.2 million. Grants help open new grocery stores in eligible food desert areas and can cover:
✅ Property purchase, construction, and renovation
✅ Equipment and fixtures
✅ Up to two years of startup operating costs, including wages and initial food inventory

Who can apply: units of local government, and independent grocers or co-ops with fewer than 500 employees and no more than four locations.

📅 Applications are due December 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM. Applicants who submit by November 25 can get an early eligibility review.

Free application assistance is available through Western Illinois University's Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs.
