It is always a “treat” to meet someone working hard to make their dreams come true!

Yesterday, our office honored Jennifer Groeber as she had her official ribbon cutting on her “Keep It Sweet” business. What she started in her basement now moves to a full industrial kitchen on Upper Valley Pike.

Proud to bring congratulations from the Ohio Senate to the Neighborhood Housing Partnership of Greater Springfield’s next single-family home development. Today they broke ground on five new homes that will be sold to low-income, first-time homebuyers

This project was financed by the Welcome Home Ohio state program, HOME and CHDO funding through the City of Springfield, as well as private philanthropic funding from the Crabill Family Foundation.

These homes will be located near Fulton Elementary on Euclid Avenue.

The month of August started a transition in our office, as one of my Legislative Aides headed off to law school.

Sean Rhodes started with me in January of 2025 as he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ashland University. For the last 20 months, he served the 10th Senate District and my office with a servant’s heart.

Sean was constantly on the frontline of taking the calls from constituents facing problems for our office to solve… and yes, taking the calls from folks who sometimes don’t agree with me. He was always a sounding board for bills put before me that would effect those same constituents.

He now heads off to the Toledo University School of Law.

While I wish him the best of luck, I don’t think Sean is going to need it.

And yes, for the last 10 years, I have rewarded those who have had a “great run” in my office with a belt buckle to thank them for their service to our District.

Sometimes being a State Senator can be just fun while supporting young people and 4H.

Yesterday, I got to chair the Joint House-Senate Agriculture Committee at the Ohio State Fair. We heard from young adults representing 4-H, FFA, and other youth programs from across the state.

We ended the day with the annual “Battle For The Bacon” where I was paired up with Greene County 4H participant Kenley Guess and her Dark Cross Barrow named Bubba.

Kenley tutored me as best she could on showing hogs, and our team ended up taking 4th out of 14 elected and government officials showing hogs at the fair.

Thanks to Kenley and the Guess family for allowing me the honor.

(BTW, Kenley has just made the trip from the Greene County Fair, where she won a championship buckle for Showmanship… so I knew I was in good hands!)

The Clark County Fair ended on Friday night, and here it is Sunday, and the Greene County Fair opens.

Great to see old and new friends in the sheep barn and at the Republican Party tent.

Even watched an extremely young man working on his showmanship. I have to show a hog at the Ohio State Fair later this week, so I was picking up some pointers!

(Of course I was there to pick up where I left off with my daily helping of Ulery Ice Cream from last week’s fair!)

The "tradition" continued today at the Clark County Fair. For the last ten years, if you end up the high bidder on a Champion Turkey... then you have to be willing to pick it up for the picture.

Today it was Adilee Balzer's large Grand Champion bird!

Mission accomplished!

What a wonderful morning at the Clark County Fair's "Sale of Champions".

With the help of folks like LWS Tax Services, Studebaker's Country Restaurant, Sheriff Chris Clark, Commissioner Sasha Rittenhouse, Matt Moore's Farrier Service, Scott Barnhart from Innovate All, Park National Bank, Agri Spray Drones, and Merchants National Bank, we ended up as winning bidders on everything from chickens and rabbits to turkeys and eggs.

Congrats to Henry Eggleston, Lillie Mae Smitson, Mason Clements, Delaney Conkel, Adilee Balzer, Adalynn Anderson and Amelia McCarthy Zara!

THIS PICTURE SAYS A LOT!

While it is a privilege to represent state government at the Clark County Fair - I want to point out something that is simply INCREDIBLE about our county-level officials. I am talking about our Sheriff, our county auditor, our prosecutor, judges, and county commissioners.

As you walk around the fair, it should be noted that County Commissioners Greg Kaffenbarger and Sasha Rittenhouse have kids showing animals at the fair. Our county prosecutor, Dan Driscoll, has kids in 4H at the fair. Our county auditor, Hillary Hamilton's kids are always busy showing off their projects. Judge Brian Driscoll's kids are busy with their projects. Even our Sheriff Chris Clark's kids are in 4H and have projects they have entered.

It is simply AWESOME that our county officials are ACTIVELY involved with their children at the fair.

Even the county officials without 4H age children are out at the fair each day.

THIS is why the Clark County Fair continues to be one of the best fairs in Ohio.
