May 15th, 2026 -- Washington County Sheriff Deputies recover stolen property, arrest two suspects during late-night traffic stop:
On Thursday, May 14, 2026, at approximately 3:40 PM, the Washington County Sheriff's Office received a report regarding a theft on Chaplin Road in Willisburg, Kentucky. The victim reported that a utility trailer had been stolen from the property. The trailer was loaded with tools and multiple new, unopened boxes of flooring. The information was logged and dispatched to Deputy Noah Settles.
On Friday, May 15, 2026, at approximately 2:55 AM, less than 12 hours later, Deputy Noah Settles and Chief Deputy Lynn Davis observed a silver Chevy Equinox traveling past their location on Cardwell Road. Deputies noted that the vehicle was operating without visible tail lamps. Furthermore, the vehicle was towing a utility trailer matching the description of the trailer stolen from Chaplin Road the previous afternoon. The new flooring boxes were still visible and strapped down onto the trailer beds. Deputy Noah Settles initiated a traffic stop on the Chevy Equinox on Cardwell Road. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Britney Hagerman, and the passenger was identified as Christopher Matherly. The trailer in tow was confirmed to be the one stolen from Chaplin Road, Willisburg. Hagerman was operating the vehicle on a suspended driver’s license and without auto insurance. Britney Hagerman also had two active, outstanding warrants.
Both Hagerman and Matherly were placed under arrest without further incident. The stolen trailer, flooring, and tools were secured for return to the rightful owner. The silver Chevy Equinox was towed from the scene. Both Britney Hagerman and Christopher Matherly were transported to and lodged in the Marion County Detention Center.
Chief Deputy Davis was contacted by the victim during business hours – stating that some of the tools were still missing. A search warrant was then executed around 2:30pm at a Willisburg residence where most of the remaining stolen property was recovered. We want to thank the victims and the County Attorney’s Office for their assistance.
Britney Hagerman was charged with the following:
1. RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY $1,000
