The General Assembly gaveled in today at 9:00 am for the last day of Spring Session. We will be working late into the night and early morning to pass several major bills and the largest budget in state history.

House Republicans were handed 3,600+ pages of the budget to analyze to determine how much more Illinois taxpayers will be on the hook for. I will be fighting all day against additional taxes and fees that might be slipped into controversial bills.

One thing is clear, Illinois residents need relief from the taxes, costs, and reckless spending that have made it harder to live, work, and raise a family in Illinois.

This budget will reflect the priorities of the Illinois Democrats and will shine light on how they view affordability.

Two days remain of spring session and we are working hard to stop any new tax hikes for the FY27 budget.

Committees begin at 3:00 pm today and then we will gavel in for session at 5:00 pm. We will be paying close attention to so-called affordability “solutions" as we are expecting to see larger bills move through the House.

Earlier today, I introduced two of my "Pages for The Day"- Rheed Kiel and my daughter Chloe.

Rheed Kiel is from Chatham, Illinois and is wrapping up his senior year in Western Illinois University, majoring in law enforcement. Rheed’s ultimate career goal is to protect and serve our state by officially joining the Illinois State Police and specializing with the Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center.

My daughter Chloe is going to be a senior at the University of Mississippi. She’s majoring in Business and Hospitality Management and wants to to take over the family business, so we’ll see. She’s a very special girl and I’m very proud to have her as my daughter.

Rather than cut wasteful spending, the Democrats’ solution is…more taxes! There always seems to be a proposal to boost revenue in Illinois which would implement an entirely new tax on Illinoisans, but we don't have a revenue problem, we have a major spending problem.

Fiscal responsibility matters, transparency matters, and our taxpayers matter. That’s what we must keep in mind.

I joined State Representative Bradley Fritts to provide a brief update on what's happening at the Capitol. We have three days left before we adjourn and House Republicans are fighting to stop any new tax increases!

The Lake Springfield Center Park project will provide additional boating docks and a canoe launch, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy the lake. This investment will improve safety, increase accessibility, and help more families take advantage of one of our community’s greatest outdoor resources.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Nearly $200,000 in improvements is coming to Lake Springfield Center Park. State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) announced on Tuesday that the Illinois D…

My grandson Henry joined me at the Capitol this week during session. He seemed to be very intrigued on the house floor and just might represent the 95th District one of these days!

Welcome to your Capitol Henry!

This is our last week to bring affordability back to Illinois, and that does not mean supporting a state budget proposal that creates $700 million in new taxes. May 31st is the deadline to pass a state budget and we a lot of work to do for the people of Illinois.

We are going to work late nights passing bills that will either benefit the citizens of Illinois or create more burdens. I'm committed to fighting the progressive agenda and working to lower taxes across the board, reduce energy rates, and grow our economy through common sense policies.

We must focus on fiscal reform and cutting wasteful spending. Illinoisans are taxed out and they want an honest government, lower taxes, and more opportunity.

May we never forget the reason for the Memorial Day holiday- to honor all the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedom we have today.

We may not know them all, but we owe them all. Please take a moment today to remember our fallen military heroes.
