It doesn’t take much for a person to notice something new in the community and posts it in the group. Lilly’s Girl Scout Troop has been planning to build the first Little Free Library in Spring Grove, since they were 2nd Year Daisy’s. They were in 1st grade! It was part of their Good Neighbor progression to help make the community bettter and to learn what community service was at an early age. Pu
tting this library in, is part of a bigger picture as the girls will be bridging to Juniors in the Spring and begin working on their higher awards. The girls will take turns up keeping the library and the grounds to make sure it is tip top shape and full of books. We partnered up with Lotz Construction who helped the girls design, build and paint the library. They learned about how to safely use power tools and actually used them. In order to get this in, it took a long time and learned that you have to go to the Village to put it on the agenda and go through a series of approvals. The biggest one was that there was an ordinance that the village did not allow Little Free Library because of... well that’s another story. Eric bought the plaque for the library so we can have it registered and I am going to design a plaque in 3D with the troop and information . We will have a big dodad in the Spring with the Girls, Lotz Construction and the Village. Thank you also to Spring Grove Elementary families and the library for donating books. They have been stored in my dining room for a year patiently waiting to be enjoyed. If you are interested in donating books feel free to add to the library or contact me to drop them off. We will take adult and children books, audio books and movies. This couldn’t come at a better time and a wonderful gift to the community from your Girl Scout Troop 1888. A big thank you to the Spring Grove Elementary School families and the Spring Grove Elementary School Library for donations during our book drive in May 2019. All these books have been waiting to be shared with the community and beyond. The Little Free Library is located at the corner of Main St and Blivin/Richardson Rd in the Park. Donations of children and adult books, DVDs, CDs, Audiobooks and Magazines in good condition will be generously accepted and can contact frances mai-ling for more info at [email protected]
