August 14, 2026 City of Spencer Police Department is proud to participate with Tennessee Highway Safety Office Sobriety Checkpoint.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol recognizes that sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.

After passing several clearly posted 45 mph signs and passing multiple vehicles “I didn’t know the speed limit is 45 mph” is not a defense and could have ended in grave tragedy today at this speed.

Left for dead, the rescue team named this sweet boy “Chief”. I’m happy to report he has made a amazing recovery and will never suffer again. This is his story…

May 28, 2026 Spencer Police Department responded to a call for service in the City limits regarding possible animal cruelty.

SPD officers arrived and observed a dog outside of a home trapped in a small cage with deteriorated cover, no water, no food.

The dog was laid over on his right side with his tongue hanging out of his mouth struggling to breathe with each short breath. His eyes open but was unable to see due to the infections and discharge.

It was clear he had suffered for months and at that time had severe weight loss where his ribs, spine, and hip bones stuck out very far with no body fat and major loss of muscle.

After spending some time with the dog he was able to stand momentarily but it was obvious his condition was severe.

Recognizing this dog needed immediate assistance to survive, SPD took action immediately resulting in one individual criminally charged with TN TCA 39-14-202 Cruelty to Animals as well as immediate removal of the dog.

I Chief Scott Garing, would like to thank the person(s) (wish to remain anonymous) who SPD partnered with whom accepted the call when you did not have to and saved this dog’s life. Thanks to your generous heart, willingness to act, going above and beyond for him, today he is so happy and vibrant and perfect and will never suffer again. I’m grateful and proud to have worked with you and beside you throughout this incredible rescue. So from the bottom of my heart. Thank you
