Public Safety Message from the Camden County Sheriff's Office

It's that time of year again when local farmers are harvesting their wheat crops. After the harvest, some of the wheat straw left behind will be baled and stacked in fields while awaiting transport to northern states, where it is used in various agricultural practices.
These straw bales are much larger than the typical hay bales most people are familiar with. Each bale can weigh in excess of 300 pounds when dry. As you can imagine, a falling bale can cause severe injury or even death.
The Camden County Sheriff's Office, along with our local farming community, is asking parents and guardians to educate their children about the dangers of climbing on these stacked bales and to keep them away from these areas. While the stacks may appear to be an attractive place to play, they can be extremely unstable and dangerous.
Our goal is to prevent a tragedy before it happens. We do not want to respond to a serious injury or fatal accident involving these bale stacks this summer.
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in keeping our children safe. We wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and fun-filled summer!

SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Tomorrow, Saturday May 30th, the Camden County Sheriff's Office will be assisting "Betsy Dowdy" as she recreates her historic 1775 ride to warn General Skinner that the British were on the move toward Great Bridge! Our own "Betsy" Miss Kelly Curry and her mount Chili will begin their ride at 10:30 am leaving 152 US HWY 158 W (Lamb's Marina) and travel west on US158 to Henderson & Associates were the ride will conclude.
During the ride, the Sheriff's Office will follow behind Kelly & Chili west on US158 blocking both west bound lanes to keep vehicles away from Chili. The ride may take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to complete. Traffic can follow behind the patrol cars but it will be at a very slow pace.
We ask for your patience, understanding and support to make this a safe and memorable event.

Respectfully,
J. Kevin Jones, Sheriff
