Level 1 Drought Response Declaration

Date: April 27, 2026

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has declared a Level 1 Drought Response for the entire state, following ongoing monitoring of climatic indicators and water supply conditions. This action is in accordance with the Drought Management Rule adopted in June 2015. Current assessments show that Georgia is experiencing severe drought, with most of the state under D3 (Extreme Drought) or D4 (Exceptional Drought) classifications (see US Drought Monitor Map for Georgia).

What Does Level 1 Drought Response Mean for You?

* General landscape watering is permitted only between 4:00 PM and 10:00 AM.
* The following activities are allowed at any time of day:
* Irrigation of personal food gardens
* Irrigation of new and replanted plants, seeds, or turf for 30 days after installation
* Drip irrigation or the use of soaker hoses
* Hand watering with a hose with an automatic cutoff or a handheld container

Water Conservation Tips:

* Regularly check for and repair leaks inside and outside your home.
* Don’t leave the tap running—turn it off when shaving, brushing your teeth, washing your face, or rinsing food.
* Only water your landscape when necessary. Adjust sprinklers to direct water only onto your lawn, not onto houses, sidewalks, or streets.

Your cooperation is essential to help conserve Georgia’s water resources during this drought. Thank you for doing your part!
