The Sioux Falls League registered new citizens to vote yesterday at the Naturalization Ceremony at the Washington Pavilion. Our thanks to the Minnehaha and Lincoln County Auditors and staff for assisting! These new South Dakota voters are now eligible to vote in the general election.

The plaintiffs are not challenging South Dakota’s decision to require citizenship documentation itself. Instead, they say the state has built a system that can leave eligible voters unaware of why they were denied full registration and with no clear path to fix the problem.

Commemorate the Voting Rights Act of 1965 tomorrow (Sat., Aug. 8th) by helping South Dakota Voices for Peace "paper the town" with "Know your rights" door hangers and other information. The link below has a sign-up form. You can pick up info at the Caille Branch Library or First Congregational Church and get trained for lit drops from 10 to noon or noon to 2:00.
