East High's Logan Cherkas is officially the toughest baseball player in America.*

*According to baseballs that keep hitting him. Congratulations on setting the state AND national record for career hit-by-pitches! Taking one for the team has never been so literal 😆

to Elexis Claussen, an attendance instructional assistant at North High!

A thankful colleague had this to say about Elexis:
"Elexis has gone above and beyond assisting with the attendance policy at North High. She is a team player and has stepped up to the plate after we lost one of our team members. She is a true asset and I greatly appreciate all her hard work!"

North Middle School students took a walk through the Jurassic world recently. High Plain Paleontology, a local nonprofit organization, brought stories of exploration and dinosaur fossils to North Middle for a discussion on paleontology. The engaging presentation sparked our students' curiosity for natural history.

Congratulations to West High School junior Isaiah Young for taking home second place in bocce at the Iowa State Special Olympics meet! This was Isaiah's first time competing in bocce, and he was great! In total, the Sioux City Unified West bocce team took home 5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.

The Special Olympics coordinators in Sioux City would also like to recognize coach JJ Reeg-Beckner. Colleagues had this to say about JJ:
"JJ is an invaluable asset to West High School, where he serves as a dedicated paraprofessional. Known warmly by students as Mr. B, he guides with a gentle confidence, masterfully supporting both their academic growth and social-emotional development. Beyond the classroom, Coach Beckner’s passion shines through his work with Special Olympics Iowa, where he has long been a proud unified partner. Coach Beckner truly embodies what it means to be a West High Wolverine, making a lasting, positive impact on his students, athletes, and the entire school community."

Congrats to all! 💚 🖤

to Dr. Rachael Eggers-Ferry, an assistant principal at East High!

Alyssa Jaques had this to say:
"Dr. Eggers-Ferry exemplifies what it means to be both a leader and an instructional coach. Our Freshman House would not be where it is today without her guidance and support.

Dr. Eggers fosters an environment where teachers feel comfortable seeking support, knowing she is always available to listen, problem-solve, and offer thoughtful advice. Her intentional focus on school climate and culture, combined with clear communication, accountability, and a commitment to using data to guide our work, has been instrumental in building a cohesive and effective team."
