The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) and the Office for Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) are advising City Council on potential changes to the Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) Ordinance and want to hear from you.

The PSST law has been in effect since 2012 and requires employers to provide paid leave for employees who work in Seattle:

To care for themselves or a family member for a physical or mental health condition, including a doctor appointment
To care for themselves, a family member, or a household member for reasons related to domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking
When their family member’s school or place of care has been closed
When their place of business has been closed by order of a public official for health reasons
For employers of business with 250+ FTE, when their place of business has been closed for any health or safety reason

This law is for all workers in Seattle regardless of their immigration status.

If you would like to provide feedback, please fill out our survey to provide comments. This survey is anonymous and will be open until end of day on Monday June 8th.

For any questions, please contact Diana Salazar (OLS), [email protected] or Jena Yang (OIRA), [email protected]

Do you know what to do if you see ICE in your community?

This 1-hour basic class will show you what to do if you happen to see immigration enforcement activity. It’s like taking CPR training: you hope you’ll never need it, but it’s good to know what to do in case of an emergency.

During times of fear and anger, coming together as a community is the only way to continue forward.

This past week has been incredibly heavy for so many in our q***r and trans communities.

As we grapple with the surreal and deeply unjust loss of our trans neighbor, Juniper, and the intense emotions that come with violence, grief, fear, and exhaustion, we want to intentionally hold space for community.

On Wednesday, May 20th from 4–6pm, our weekly office hours at Together Center will simply be a place to be together.

There is no pressure to speak. No expectation to share. We understand the incredible pull of isolation right now. You are welcome to just exist beside community, sip some warm tea or coffee, breathe, connect, cry, sit quietly, or simply not be alone for a little while.

We will also still be holding our regularly scheduled D&D sessions for anyone who wants to be around community and find a little comfort, grounding, or positive distraction through play and connection.

We are still actively crafting this space in the wake of this tragedy and are currently reaching out to community partners to invite q***r mental health professionals to join us in helping hold supportive space for community.

Please be gentle with yourself right now. Lean on one another where you can.

We take care of us. 🏳️‍⚧️
