♟️ Syre Chess Club finishes 12th in State Tournament! ♟️

Coach Walter Guity shared that our Syre Chess Club team had an incredible showing at the Washington State Tournament last weekend!

After sending just two students last year, we had 11 players compete this year—and out of 246 teams statewide, we placed 12th overall!

A special shoutout to our first-time competitors—Will, Nakita, and Elliot—who each won at least one game in their very first tournament.

Top performers included:

Oliver (4th grade): 4/5 points, 16th in the state
Sage & Enkhtulga (5th grade): 3.5/5, top 30 finishes
Noah (2nd) & Solange (K): 3/5 points

We also want to recognize Laila, Jasper, and Declan for beating higher-rated opponents and keeping team spirits high throughout the competition.

With over 1,500 players, this was the largest chess tournament in Washington State history—an amazing experience for our students to learn, compete, and grow.

We’re less than 2 weeks away from an 80’s prom night benefiting our school. We’re 50% of the way to our ticket sales goal, if you’ve been thinking about grabbing a ticket, now’s the time.

Your $75 ticket includes access to the event, live bidding, raffles, + food—and gives $25 directly back to Syre, funding field trips, art supplies, enrichment scholarships, and more.
