Is our school district operating with real oversight, or just rubber-stamping decisions after the fact? Ahead of the upcoming voting meeting, we’ve dive-bombed the official board agenda to pull out the critical line items every taxpayer and parent needs to see.
Here are the major red flags we uncovered:

A massive music department trip to Orlando is up for approval. The problem? The official application states there is zero trip insurance secured, and the chaperone ratio is 1:20 completely violating the district's own mandatory 1:10 safety policy.
⚠️𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞::
Our analysis of the Facilities Use Log shows a pattern. Multiple outside organizations are being allowed onto our fields and into our gyms weeks before the board actually votes to permit them. By the time the board votes, the events have already happened. This isn't oversight it's a liability vacuum.

The board works for *you*, the taxpayer. It’s time to demand absolute transparency, fiscal discipline, and adherence to policy.

On Wednesday morning, a large contingent of local Muslim men gathered at the Governor Mifflin High School football stadium for an Eid al-Adha prayer service. While independent sources confirm a local businessman covered all rental and insurance costs out-of-pocket, the event took place with **NO prior official approval or vote by the school board, as required by Pennsylvania policy.
𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: Following community questions, this stadium rental has just been quietly added to Monday night’s school board agenda for retroactive approval voting on the event after it has already happened.
Under state guidelines, the ultimate authority to grant access to public, taxpayer-funded property remains strictly with the elected Board of School Directors, not district administration. Bypassing this process has raised serious transparency and policy compliance questions among local taxpayers.

Reading’s 2026 budget is not a success story — it’s a warning sign. The city only balances the budget by using $12.45 million in fund balance and $15.77 million in transfers, while taxpayers face more pressure and long-term priorities like paving and OPEB support are cut back. Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today.
