Linus Bicker, Town Council

Linus Bicker, Town Council I want to preserve the small town atmosphere and uphold the qualities of Shepherdstown that we cherish: Arts, Nature, History.

I will advocate for our small businesses to help ensure a vibrant Main Street. I will speak up for responsible land use.

The Shepherdstown Tree Commission has been busy this fall, with a focus on both current projects and long-term goals for our town’s tree canopy. Key updates include:

• Tree Planting: We are in the process of creating a plan to plant new trees in the empty tree wells along German Street, further enhancing our town’s streetscape and green spaces.
• Crab Apple Tree Care: The iconic crab apple tree in front of the old library (and soon-to-be Welcome Center) is an older and cherished specimen. To ensure its continued health, we will wait until the winter months to carry out necessary pruning.

Looking ahead, the Tree Commission has identified several important goals for 2025:
o Improve the health of the town tree canopy.
o Identify the potentials for increasing tree canopy and tree understory plant communities.
o Create public awareness of the importance of tree canopy and invite more public support for this work.

Special thanks to Tree Commission members Charlotte Baker-Shenk, James Dillon, and Robin McGrorty for their dedication, as well as to Jamie Byron and Shawn Walker for providing an additional layer of subject matter expertise.

Please attend to voice your feedback!

Over the recent months, we have been successful at influencing the county to:

1) Remove the designated “Preferred Growth Area” from the area surrounding the new school.

2) Reject the PILOT tax incentive for the Wild Hill solar project.

Showing up makes a difference!
