🔥 Incident Response – Solar Field Fire (June 23, 2026)

At approximately 9:20 AM, Sheakleyville Community Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to a call for a brush fire at the solar farm next to the school. Captain Tabachka, Lieutenant Tuchek, firefighter Vaughn, Chizmar & King responded to this incident.

Upon firefighter Vaughn’s arrival, he observed smoke coming from a box within the fenced area. Initial access was limited until other units arrived. Once other units arrived entry was safely made with minimal damage to the fence, and firefighters discovered that an inverter unit was on fire. The fire had nearly extinguished itself by the time personnel safely reached it.

The company who owns the solar farm was contacted, and firefighters remained on scene until a technician arrived to ensure the situation was fully resolved.

What happened out on Georgetown Road between Cranberry Road and Condit Road last Sunday, 5/31/26, you ask?

Two of our own Sheakleyville firefighters Josh Fiscus and Joey Buck along with several others from other departments participated in an Acquired Structure Burn class. This hands‑on training is designed to strengthen their skills in safely and effectively handling real structure fires.

This course is also a key part of earning their Firefighter 1 certification, one of the foundational levels of professional fire training.

We’re proud of them all and their dedication, commitment to learning, and continued effort to keep our communities safe.

Thank you Stoneboro Vol Fire Co " 76 House" Greenwood Fire & Rescue Dept. 40 Sandy Lake Fire Department Jackson Center Volunteer Fire Company for apparatus and Pine Township Engine Co for the instructors. Emergycare for being on standby and rehab.

This is why we don’t do online raffles

Technically and unfortunately, yes, it violates the law. I inform each and every organization I license of this and what they do with that information is between them and law enforcement. County Treasurers are the licensing authority. As I understand the SGOC Act, it is my responsibility to evaluate if an organization qualifies for a license, not to police them once they have it. AND THIS LAW NEEDS TO CHANGE!!! I have pushed for change for years but to no avail. It is unfair that the Pennsylvania government can benefit through PA Lottery sales which can be purchased with a debit card and I can even "top off" my PA Lottery app with PayPal, but the same opportunity is not extended to literal charities and fire departments. This should be a no brainer and it is clearly a bipartisan issue so why can it not get done?????

My apologies for sounding harsh, but why are we making it difficult for charities, nonprofits, and fire departments to raise funds to do good work for our communities?

🚒 Prom Promise Mock Accident – A Powerful Lesson for Our Students

Today, Sheakleyville Community Volunteer Fire Department partnered with the Commodore Perry High School Student Council to stage a Prom Promise mock accident — a realistic demonstration designed to show the consequences of impaired driving.

Two vehicles were positioned to recreate a serious crash, with student actors portraying victims who were critically injured or deceased as a result of impairment. Members of SCVFD, an ambulance crew from EmergeCare, and the Pennsylvania State Police all responded just as we would to a real emergency.

Throughout the scenario, students witnessed how first responders work together:

• Firefighters and EMS extricating and treating the injured
• Troopers investigating the scene and conducting a field sobriety test on the impaired driver
• The Deputy Coroner documenting and taking custody of the “deceased” victim

Every actor — injured or deceased — was treated with the same care and respect we give on real incidents. The goal is not to scare, but to show the reality of what can happen when someone chooses to drive under the influence.

We conduct these simulations to remind our young men and women that one decision can change — or end — lives. As prom season approaches, we hope this experience encourages every student to make safe, responsible choices. Their lives, and the lives of others, depend on it.

Another huge thank you again to Emergecare, Mercer County Coroners Office, Pennsylvania State Police, State Farm, John’s Automotive and Commodore Perry Student Council, students and staff.
