As we celebrate Sharpsburg’s Bicentennial, the Sharpsburg Historic Commission felt it was only fitting that we take this opportunity to honor the man who founded our community, Mr. James Sharp, his second wife, Isabella, and their family.
With the approval of Borough Council, the Sharpsburg Historic Commission arranged for the Sharp Memorial and Eliza’s stone to be carefully cleaned and restored.
Earlier today we gathered at the Allegheny Cemetery to rededicate this memorial in memory of Mr. Sharp and his family, and to recognize the important role they played in the early history of our community.
While we honor our past today, we also look toward Sharpsburg’s future.
In the spirit of James Sharp, who helped establish the foundation of this community 200 years ago, we look forward with hope and determination to the bright future that lies ahead.
That future will be shaped by all of us—and with the continued commitment and support of those of you here today, we can help ensure that Sharpsburg remains a strong and vibrant community as we move into our next century.
