We’re kicking off 2026 with a celebration of 100 years of the Mother Road. Our January/February issue is dedicated to exploring the stretch of the historic Route 66 that crosses through Texas—from the small towns of Shamrock to Vega.

Just off a slightly less famous highway in Central Texas, Interstate 35, Texas Highways senior writer Ian Dille documents the decades-long rivalry between two mythologized river characters who spend their days at Sewell Park in San Marcos: Frisbee Dan and Sun God.
