What am I even talking about?!

this post comes out of learning about the changes to student loans and who will qualify for what type of loan and the loan amount based on what the government classifies as "professional". as a social worker, I already understand that we are kind of at the bottom of the totem pole in terms of professional degrees regarding loan forgiveness or discounts at stores, but we were able to bill Medicare sooner than some professions, and Social Security *sort of* views us as credible sources. basically the government doesn’t even know how they classify us. 😹

this is a big deal, and I think brings to light things that people probably didn’t know, including myself, which is thatthe definition of "professional" clearly needs to change. Most people would not be able to go into these fields if it weren’t for the hundreds of thousands of dollars of loans that they were able to get/ will spend their entire lives paying off.

so even though many of the posts that I’ve seen going around which originally brought this issue to my attention, they aren’t totally accurate as most of those professions haven’t been counted as professional EVER. The message is still important, but I think correct information is the way to truly empower people and that means telling things with context. I am hoping that people making posts about this didn’t leave the historical info out purposely because they’ve said things like "re-classify" which isn’t true because they haven’t been classified this way ever, but just a gentle reminder that when we see something that invokes strong feelings, which those posts did in me, it is important to fact check. 🙃🙃🙃

It's November- here's some things I've taken screenshots of recently.

Tell me you grew up passing notes without telling me: it takes me longer to make posts than my screentime limits allow🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I created therapy social media accounts so I could direct my clients to one place vs trying to share things separately, but it turns out that when you're super into promoting getting offline (or at least less social media for all of us!), that naturally results in not posting anyways 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not sure what to do about that or if it matters since I'm not a regular therapist, I'm a ✨✨cOoL thEraPiSt✨✨ iykyk 🤪

Highly recommend doing therapy on a hike while the sun comes up. No deer in today's session, but I did get to see a squirrel rolling around with a nut- part playing, part stockpiling. 😻😻😻

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Thanks to MCLA for the reminder and beautiful artwork 😄. From September 15 - October 15 it's time to celebrate the friends, family, neighbors, and general community members, for all the amazing ways they contribute to this world/society.

This time period offers a chance to learn from the stories, history, and perseverance of others, and to show support as friends, colleagues, and neighbors come together. ESPECIALLY this year.
Joining in the celebration helps build understanding and community, no matter our backgrounds. That being said, keep the appreciation going all year long!

I didn't create this survey or list of events but check them out: https://mad.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0pLwEH2NqzszgNw

Someone amazing recently said this quote to me. I LOVE it. For many reasons, but mostly because shame tells us that if we think something we're horrible.

Nope.

Some thoughts may require more investigating, but thoughts simply mean our cortex is alive and well.

Kind of cool to think about 🙃

🌪️ Codependency isn’t care—it’s SURVIVAL in disguise. 🌪️

In enmeshed relationships, we learn to shape-shift—adjusting our thoughts, needs, even identities—to maintain peace, protect others from discomfort, or keep ourselves “safe.”
But here’s the quiet truth:
That’s not connection. That’s control masked as love.

This is the hidden cost of codependency:
• You stop trusting your own instincts.
• You prioritize someone else’s nervous system over your own.
• You start to believe that being okay means making sure everyone else is okay first.

As a human in a relationship with anyone—recognizing this pattern is the first step back to self.

🌀 Real boundaries aren’t walls. They’re clarity.
🌀 Peace isn’t earned through people-pleasing.
🌀 Love doesn’t require self-abandonment.

Your healing doesn’t come from managing others.
It comes from remembering you ARE NOT responsible for someone else’s emotions, safety, or choices.

This is the unlearning. This is the work.

Just dropped a new video on TikTok about something that’s been on my mind: if we’re socializing with people we can’t be real with… what’s the point? 👀 Let’s start choosing authenticity over performance and redefine what connection actually looks like.

Check it out on TikTok and let me know your thoughts — especially if your social battery is permanently running on 1%. ⚡

I don't remember who gave out the little paper poppies to people, but I always thought those were so special when I was a kid. My parents kept them visible, and I really treasured that. So whenever I see poppies, and on Memorial Day, I like to remember the numerous family members of mine that are buried at Fort Snelling.

This Memorial Day, I also invite you to:
• Gently check in with yourself and those around you
• Allow space for any feelings that arise—there is no “right” way to remember
• Reach out if you need support; you are not alone in this journey

Healing happens when we honor both our memories and our mental health. Take care of your heart today.
