Southern flying squirrels, Ohio's most common squirrel exhibit biofluorescence, glowing bubblegum pink under UV light. This occurs when their fur absorbs the UV wavelengths and re-emits them as visible pink light. This was recently discovered by the scientific community and the exact reason still baffles biologists. However, it is theorized to help with communication, camouflage or even with mating.
