Early in the morning, WTFD was dispatched to the area of Wilson Rd and Bryant Rd for a reported dwelling fire. Upon arrival, crews quickly located and investigated the incident which was determined to be a large brush fire behind several properties in the area. Crews remained on scene for approximately one and a half hours conducting suppression and overhaul operations before returning to service.

🇺🇸 FLAG DAY 🇺🇸

For the fire service, the American flag carries a meaning that runs deep. It is present at our stations, on our apparatus, at ceremonies, and beside the families of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It reminds us of the generations of firefighters who have answered the call, served their communities, and protected the freedoms we often take for granted.

Every time we raise the flag, salute the flag, or see it flying over our firehouses; we are reminded of our duty. Not only to respond in times of need, but to serve with honor, respect, and compassion.

Today we recognized Career Firefighter Anthony Patten for successfully completing his one-year probationary period. Chief Patrick Dolgos presented Anthony with his helmet shield this morning, marking an important milestone in his career. Anthony has quietly and consistently exemplified the standards, professionalism, and dedication we expect from our firefighters, and we are proud to have him as a member of our team.

To celebrate the occasion, our staff prepared and served a delicious breakfast for the crew and Anthony’s family.

Following breakfast, the crew noticed a swarm of bees to the rear of the fire station. A call was placed to our friend Nicole Mazzitelli, our local bee expert, who did not hesitate to come out and assist. Nicole quickly assessed the situation and implemented a safe plan to remove and relocate the bees.

Not one to miss an opportunity for a unique learning experience, Firefighter Patten suited up and joined Nicole on the mission.

We can’t thank Nicole enough for her willingness to help and her expertise in safely handling the situation.

Congratulations again to Firefighter Anthony Patten on completing probation, and thank you, Nicole, for being such a great community partner!

Last night’s Board of Fire Commissioners meeting was a special evening of recognition, celebration, and new beginnings for the Washington Township Fire District.

The Board of Fire Commissioners and Fire Chief Patrick Dolgos proudly recognized 38-year veteran volunteer firefighter Joseph Mason for his extraordinary service and dedication to our community. Joe came through the ranks of Grenloch Fire Company and served in multiple leadership positions throughout his distinguished career, including District Battalion Chief. Over the years, Joe has made a tremendous impact on our organization through his professionalism, mentorship, leadership, and friendship.

In recognition of his outstanding volunteer service, the Board presented Joe with a proclamation honoring his retirement from the fire service. We extend our sincere gratitude for his 38 years of commitment and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.

The evening also marked the swearing-in of two new career firefighters.

Firefighter JP Lee officially joined our career staff after serving in our volunteer ranks. JP is the son of Captain James Lee and brings valuable experience from his service with the Harrison Township Fire District as well as the Glassboro Fire Department. We are proud to welcome JP into his new role and look forward to his continued service to our community.

Additionally, Firefighter Daniel McNemer was sworn in as our newest career firefighter. Dan is a third-generation firefighter and a volunteer member of the West Tuckerton Fire Department. He also serves as a firefighter with the 177th Wing Air National Guard. In a proud family moment, Dan’s mother, father, and grandfather joined him on stage as he took his oath of office. We are excited to welcome Dan to the Washington Township Fire District family.

The ceremony was attended by numerous volunteer and career firefighters, members of the Board of Fire Commissioners, family and friends, and Township Council members Don Brown, Pete DelBorrello, and Jack Yerkes.

Please join us in congratulating Joseph Mason on an outstanding fire service career and welcoming Firefighters JP Lee and Daniel McNemer to the Washington Township Fire District.

This evening, WTFD Volunteer Firefighter John Ferguson graduated the Camden County Fire Academy. Several WTFD members were there to congratulate John. Congratulations and Job well done!!

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter John Comstock of Platoon V8, who was recognized in May by Deputy Chiefs Borkowski and Zemski for consistently going above and beyond in support of the department’s mission.

John’s dedication and willingness to step up whenever needed has made a lasting impact on our organization. As a small token of appreciation, FF Comstock and his Platoon V8 crew were treated to a home-cooked dinner prepared by Deputy Chiefs Borkowski and Zemski. A simple way to recognize John’s hard work, dedication, and commitment.

As the temperatures begin to get warmer, the Washington Township Fire Department would like to provide some Swimmer Safety tips to our residents and visitors! Unfortunately, Washington Township has seen an occurrence of drownings in swimming pools and lakes. Awareness is key! ☀️🏊🏼🚣🏼

1. Never Swim Alone
Always swim with a buddy for added safety.

2. Know Your Limits
Don’t overexert yourself. Stay in areas that match your skill level.

3. Supervise Children Closely
Constant, active supervision is essential—even for strong swimmers.

4. Check Water Conditions
In ponds, look out for hidden hazards like rocks, debris, and drop-offs. Ponds, unless supervised by vigilant Lifeguards, are often dangerous due to unknown terrain and colors.

5. Enter the Water Safely
Use ladders or walk in slowly. Never dive into unknown or shallow water.

6. Avoid Alcohol and Drugs
These impair judgment and coordination—stay alert in the water.

7. Follow Pool Rules and Signs
Respect posted safety instructions at all times.

8. Wear a Life Jacket if Needed
Use a life jacket in ponds or if you’re not a confident swimmer.

9. Stay Away from Drains and Filters
Suction can be dangerous—avoid swimming near drains.

10. Be Prepared for Emergencies
Know CPR, have a phone nearby, and locate rescue equipment.

This afternoon, local members assigned to Tower Company 10 (C Platoon), and the Fire Chief, operated on a working private dwelling fire in the Williamstown section of Monroe Township. The All Hands was transmitted.
