❤️✨ Starting today, No More Upcharge for non-dairy milk at Starbucks.

Most people who know me know all about my 15+ year love affair with Starbucks. I’m usually sipping a honey citrus mint tea, but occasionally I switch it up with a white chocolate mocha or a matcha green tea latte (with coconut milk). So, this change? It feels like Starbucks just proposed! 💍☕

To help celebrate, I’m picking up a few gift cards for some AMAZING REFERRAL SOURCES in the Senior Living Industry!

In this Giant Edition of UNO, the game was over before I could make my next move. My 85-year-old client held three Draw 4 cards, while I was left with a full hand. There was no winning this one.

It reminded me of those moments as a Senior Living Professional when a prospect decides to go a different route. Another home health provider is selected, a more elaborate assisted living community is chosen, or a different hospice, realtor, or therapist is preferred. Despite our best efforts, the outcome isn’t always in our control.

But true resilience and grit aren’t found in winning every game—they’re revealed in how we respond to the losses. It’s about showing grace when things don’t unfold as we hoped, and digging deep to keep going. Grit is what drives us to rise, learn, and grow, even when the game ends in defeat. We keep showing up with heart and determination because that’s where real strength lies.

Keep in mind, every setback is an opportunity to grow, and the lessons we take with us are far greater than the defeat.

“Steep in Gratitude”

At the end of each day, take a moment to reflect on what you're grateful for (e.g. more clients, a raise, double revenue, a peaceful workplace). This small practice can help shift your focus away from stress and towards the positive aspects of your work.

As I visit more Adult Family Homes, I’ve realized that it’s not just about what you see, but what you feel when you walk through the door. Each time I enter, I take a deep breath, allowing myself to truly take in the environment. I’m looking at the cleanliness, noticing any smells, feeling the temperature, and observing how the residents are cared for.

But just as important as my observations are so are the conversations I have with the providers. I LOVE when they take the time to sit down and answer my questions—about care levels, food options, socialization, staff-to-resident ratios, and everything in between. It shows their commitment and pride in what they do.

During a recent visit to a beautiful home in Shoreline, recommended by one of my trusted referral sources, I was blown away by the warmth and care the provider demonstrated. The home was clean, the staff was attentive, and the residents were clearly well cared for.

I’m so passionate about finding the right place for my clients. It’s about so much more than just a room—it’s about a community, a feeling of safety, and a sense of love.

I’m always eager to build relationships with those dedicated to providing the best for our seniors! ❤️

Three weeks ago, I started visiting a new client in our BWC Senior Companion Program. I decided to take her on personally because she had a reputation for being feisty. During our first meeting, as we got to know each other she shared something deeply personal—she was still grieving the loss of her husband who passed away two years ago. In a moment of vulnerability, she quietly said, “I wish it had been me instead.”

As we sat together, she played “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston on her iPad. I could see how much music meant to her, how it brought a sense of peace to her soul, even amidst her sorrow. After the song ended, she asked me where I was from. I told her I was born and raised in the South, and her eyes lit up. “I’ve never had fried okra or collard greens before!” she responded, a moment of excitement breaking through her grief.

That conversation stayed with me. I knew I had to do something special. So this past Friday, before our session, I made a stop at Ezell’s Famous Chicken and ordered her a half pound of fried okra. When I walked through her door with the warm container of okra, her beautiful blue eyes sparkled with surprise.

“Oh my gosh, I can’t stop eating them—they’re so good!” she said between bites, smiling and laughing. The sadness that had weighed her down seemed to lift, even if just for a little while.

Driving the extra 7 miles and spending $9.22 on a side of okra was a small price to pay for the happiness it brought her. Sometimes, it’s the smallest gestures that can have the biggest impact.

This is why we show up every week—to create moments of cheer, connection, and compassion in the lives of seniors.

: A couple of weeks ago, I was in the Burien area doing Marketing Outreach and got a chance to visit the cute and cozy cookie shop , operated by a wonderful mother-daughter team who’s passionate about great cookies and good times.

The staff was super friendly and kind, and their cookies were the perfect treat for referral sources!

It was exciting to spend the afternoon in Burien, a community that holds a special place in my heart since it’s where I first started Marketing for Senior Living back in 2018.

Who knew a game of Connect 4 could be so humbling?

During a recent visit with a new client in our Senior Companion Program, I asked if she wanted to play Connect 4. I hadn’t played in nearly 40 years, but I figured it would be a fun way to connect. She won the first two rounds effortlessly, but I managed to win the next two—though I’m pretty sure she let me win just to spare my feelings! 😅

After that, it was all her. She won the rest of the rounds without breaking a sweat. I couldn’t figure out how she was winning so consistently until she leaned in with a smile and said, “I’m watching your every move and thinking three steps ahead. You’re too busy trying to block me in one direction, but I’ve been setting traps for multiple ways to win.”

It was such a powerful moment—not just in the game, but as a reminder of the wisdom and life experience our seniors hold. Sometimes we think we’re playing the same game, but their years of knowledge and strategic thinking take it to another level.

I’m still processing my Connect 4 defeat, but it’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.

🍂 With the arrival of fall, we're bringing a touch of the season’s beauty to our seniors through festive decor. This month, we’re excited to welcome our first two veterans—both Vietnam War heroes—into our Senior Companion Program. Each week, our team spends one hour with clients, customizing activities to match their hobbies, interests, culture, and lifestyle.

From sharing a cup of tea to enjoying a favorite book or craft, we’re focused on bringing a smile and a sense of connection. It’s a small gesture that means a lot, especially in a state where nearly 30% of older adults experience feelings of isolation and loneliness.

We’re committed to making sure no senior feels alone. As the leaves change, let’s all find ways to connect, share, and show we care.

What a beautiful day connecting in West Seattle! ☀️

I spent the day visiting providers and referral sources who are dedicated to serving our beloved seniors. There's nothing more rewarding than building relationships with those who share the same passion for making a positive impact.

From thoughtful conversations to mini breath work sessions, it’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.

Grateful for the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and contribute to the well-being of our senior community.

Introducing "Sipping The Wellness Tea" ☕

Dear Senior Living Professionals,

We all know that caring for others is more than just a job—it’s a calling. But in the midst of pouring your heart into your work, have you taken a moment to pour back into yourself?

I’ve walked in your shoes, felt the weight of those long days, the never-ending to-do lists, and the emotional toll of being a steady pillar for others. It’s easy to put yourself last when your passion is helping those in need. But I’ve learned that to truly give our best, we must first be our best—inside and out.

That’s why I’m starting something close to my heart: “Sipping The Wellness Tea.” This weekly series is a love letter to you, a reminder that you deserve moments of peace, reflection, and self-care. Each week, I’ll post simple yet powerful tips to help you reclaim those precious moments, reconnect with yourself, and recharge your spirit.

And these aren’t just tips—they’re a way to remind yourself that your well-being matters. Because when you take care of yourself, you’re not just surviving—you’re thriving, and that makes all the difference for those you care for.

I invite you to join me on this journey every Monday on LinkedIn and Facebook. Together, let’s create a community where we uplift each other, share our experiences, and most importantly, take care of ourselves with the same compassion we show others.

Let’s sip the wellness tea together, one cup at a time!

With heartfelt gratitude,
Tonya Hilson, Senior Living Advisor, Marketer & Meditation Teacher
