My name is Ummi Hussein and I have been working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for 13+ years. My positions included providing direct aid care, case manager, transitional coordinator, and a resource manager. I have been blessed to interact with these special people of God in various settings. During these years, I have become very aware of the lack of support and assis
tance available to people with special needs and their families in my community. We need to create a strong connection and resource for people with special needs in our community and that is why I decided to put my years of knowledge and skills to use by creating a support system for our people. Garabsii is all about taking action towards change and to create a better community for people with special needs. We advocate for accessibility and accommodations as all people have the right to access the spaces we occupy. We wish to see a world where people with special needs are welcomed, accommodated, and are valued members of their communities. We will be hosting educational workshops, community discussion groups, and disability awareness events.
