A Turtle Neck on a Turtle’s Neck?!

🐢Peewee update!🐢

There is a slight misalignment in one of Peewee’s vertebrae, which helps explain some of the trouble he has been having with his neck and movement.

The good news? We have a plan.

We’re taking things slowly and working to encourage that vertebra back toward a more appropriate position. There isn’t a magic button we can push. There isn’t a guaranteed outcome.

There is just creativity, patience, careful rehabilitation, and a whole lot of hope.

And Peewee?

He’s still fighting. He’s still feisty. And he still has an absolutely ridiculous amount of personality packed into a turtle smaller than a handful.

This is exactly why wildlife rehabilitation matters.

Sometimes the animal in front of us doesn’t need someone to simply say, “There’s nothing we can do.”
Sometimes they need someone willing to say, “Okay. Let’s figure this out.”
And that’s what we’re doing for Peewee!

Give Local Louisville ended at midnight but we’re still incredibly close to hitting our our $1,000 fundraising goal!

If you’d like to help us continue providing veterinary care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, medications, specialized equipment, and supplies for turtles like Peewee, there are still multiple ways to donate and help us get there.

Every dollar helps us keep saying “let’s figure this out” when another animal needs us!

🚨 ONE HOUR LEFT! 🚨

Give for Good Louisville ends at midnight, and we’re making one final push toward our $1,000 veterinary-care goal.

Today you’ve met turtles who needed feeding tubes, oxygen, surgery, long-term care, and so much more.

This is why we fundraise.

We want to be able to say YES when the next turtle needs help.

If you’ve been thinking about donating, now is the time!

We don’t pick and choose who gets medical care.
When a turtle comes through our doors and needs veterinary intervention, we get them the care they need.

“Becky” needed her shattered back foot to be removed so that’s exactly what we did.
Other anesthetic procedures can consist of beak corrections, radiographs, feeding tubes, intense wound care, amputations, egg removal, and more.

This is what your support makes possible.

We’re raising $1,000 for veterinary care through Give for Good Louisville so that when the next animal needs us, we’re ready to say yes.

Remember Turt McGurt? 🐢

When Turt came to us back in April, their shell told a story of years of improper care and malnutrition.

Today, Turt is safe, cared for, and getting the things they should have had all along.
And ‼️THIS‼️ is what your support helps make possible!

Wildlife rehabilitation isn’t just about treating injuries. Sometimes we’re helping an animal recover from years of neglect. Sometimes we’re providing specialized diets, veterinary care, medications, supplements, and long-term supportive care.

Turt is a permanent resident, which means their care doesn’t end when they’re “better.” Their care continues for life.

Today, we’re raising $1,000 for veterinary care through Give for Good Louisville.

Every donation helps us continue caring for turtles like Turt, as well as the injured wildlife that comes through our doors every day.

THIS is what your donation helps provide!

Wildlife rehabilitation isn’t just food, water, and a safe place to heal.

It looks like:

🩺 Veterinary examinations
🩻 Radiographs & diagnostics
💊 Medications
🫁 Oxygen therapy
🧴 Medical supplies
🏥 Emergency and follow-up care
⚕️Surgery

Every animal that comes through our doors has different needs, and sometimes those needs are extensive.

That’s where your donation comes in.

Today for Give Local Louisville, we’re raising $1,000 toward veterinary care for the wildlife in our care.

Your $5, $10, $25, or whatever you’re able to give helps us provide the medical care our patients need when they need it!

❗️⚜️GIVE FOR GOOD LOUISVILLE IS HERE⚜️❗️

You’ve seen this turtle before. But you probably don’t know his story.

Today, we’re changing that.

This little guy came to us with brain damage and blindness. He’s spent more than a month on a feeding tube because he couldn’t eat on his own.

And now?
He’s finally eating!

That’s a huge victory. But his journey isn’t over. His condition requires ongoing veterinary care, medications, and supportive care.

So today, we’re giving you a chance to help with his care in a very special way:

‼️DONATE $5 TO NAME OUR TUBE TURTLE‼️

For every $5 donated through our Give for Good fundraiser, you can submit a name for this little fighter.

Our goal is $1,000 toward veterinary care, and we’re looking for a matching donor willing to match donations up to $500.

Your $5 could give him a name and help give him another

You know her. You love her. But you may not know just how much it takes to care for her.

This is MurderDozer, one of the turtles who has captured the hearts of so many of you when given to us by The PipSqueakery.

Her care has required veterinary attention, diagnostics, medications, and ongoing monitoring. And she’s just one of the many animals who may need that level of care when they come through our doors.

Tomorrow is Give for Good Louisville, and we’re setting a goal of $1,000 toward veterinary bills.

We want to be able to say YES when the next turtle needs us.

Give for Good starts at midnight tonight!

Tomorrow, we’re asking you to help us keep caring for the animals who need us most!

Remember Helen Keller? 🐢

If you’ve been following us for a while, you may remember this girl!
Helen came to us after a severe respiratory illness progressed to the point that both of her eyes ruptured.

She lost her eyesight completely.
But Helen didn’t lose her ability to live.

She eats. She drinks. She explores. She gets around. She has adapted to her world in a way that honestly continues to amaze us.
She’ll never see the world the way she once did, but she doesn’t need perfect eyesight to have a life worth living.

And Helen is a pretty perfect example of something we see over and over again in wildlife rehabilitation:
The treatment doesn’t always give an animal back exactly what they had before. Sometimes, it gives them a chance to adapt to what comes next.

That treatment can mean veterinary visits, medications, diagnostics, medical supplies, supportive care, specialized equipment, and sometimes months of rehabilitation.

Tomorrow is ✨Give for Good Louisville✨ and our goal is to raise $1,000 toward veterinary care for the wildlife turtles in our care.

❗️We’re also looking for someone willing to step up as a matching donor for up to $500❗️

Because Helen may be one of the turtles you remember….but she certainly won’t be the last animal who needs us.

Tomorrow, help us be ready for the next one! 💚

Over this past weekend we released 5 turtles that had been in our care for several months!

We can’t release turtles without it becoming a crazy adventure so make sure you watch the video entirely!
