Heliopsis helianthoides has a lot of common names: early sunflower, false sunflower, ox eye sunflower but they aren't technically a sunflower! This perennial has yellow daisy blooms that last 2-3 months. It will grow usually to about 4-5ft although you can 'chelsea chop' to control the height. It will grow just fine in your CLAY soil but wants full sun. While our grower recommends moist soil conditions, our members have it growing in medium moisture with no issues. Goldfinches and chickadees will love the seeds. Contact us; we only have a couple left for sale!

And that's a wrap for the 2026 Native Plant Sale!!

Club members are pulling the pre-ordered customer plants in preparation for our annual Native Plant Sale this weekend. Also, setting up the area for our “tent” sale.

Today our pre-order customers came to pick up their lush plants. Also, many plants were available for purchase in the tent.

Tomorrow, Sunday, is the last day of our plant/shrub sale. Come out to see us between 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg.
