Just because they've aged doesn't mean they've changed. Domestic abuse may still rear its ugly head even in elder relationships. Some may laugh it off, some may not even realize the abuse is taking place, but it's there. Don't make excuses for it if you recognize it. The Advocacy Resource Center has support for elder victims of domestic violence. If you know someone who may be a victim of elder domestic violence, please share our information with them, discreetly. You can learn more about elder domestic abuse at www.arcsaulttribe.com

He was lying in the middle of the street.

Near a police station.

Screaming for help.

And nobody came.

When people talk about domestic abuse, many picture a woman trying to escape a violent partner.

But what happens when the victim is a man?

What happens when he's bigger, stronger, and physically capable of fighting back...
..but knows that if he does, he could be the one arrested?

Many male survivors describe feeling trapped between two impossible choices:

Endure the abuse.

Or risk not being believed.

For some, the fear isn't just the violence.

It's the shame.
The ridicule.
The accusations.
The belief that nobody will take them seriously.

One survivor asked:

"What am I supposed to do when police don't believe me, my friends make fun of me for getting beat up by a girl, and she's still stalking my every move?"

Domestic abuse doesn't have a gender.

And survivors shouldn't have to prove they deserve help.
