The SLVFD honors the fallen.
Today, members marched in the Memorial Day Parade and participated in the Memorial Day Service at Riverside Park. Upon conclusion of the service, our moment of rest was suddenly interrupted by a fire call on Kiwassa Lake Road. Members quickly left the park and responded to the call in service to our community.
Today was a reminder that while we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, the duty to serve continues.

The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the New York State Forest Rangers stand united in our shared mission to fight wildland fires and protect public safety. The members of the SLVFD have stood side by side with Forest Ranger, Lieutenant Chris DiCintio on many incidents over the years, and we extend our heartfelt prayers and wishes for strength, comfort, and the very best care during this difficult time.

For those that may not know, Chris DiCintio has been diagnosed with stag… Patrick Odell needs your support for Standing with Chris DiCintio Through His Battle

Today, your Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department hosted a Mock DWI demonstration at the Saranac Lake High School with the entire student body in attendance.
With prom and graduation season approaching, students witnessed the devastating consequences of impaired and unsafe driving. The drill simulated a head-on collision involving five student actors with realistic moulage injuries. One student portrayed a deceased victim, while another underwent field sobriety testing, was handcuffed, and taken into custody. The remaining victims were treated and transported by ambulance.
This important training event was designed to encourage safe choices and responsible behavior behind the wheel.
We would like to thank Saranac Lake CSD, Saranac Lake Police Department, and Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad for their support. A special thank you to Madden’s Garage for providing and placing the vehicles used in today’s demonstration.

Today our Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department RAM members toured the E-One factory in Ocala Florida while on Spring Break. Thanks to the staff at E-ONE Fire Trucks (Official Site) for the educational tour of the manufacturing process. Huge thanks to Dan from Desorcie Emergency Products for meeting our RAM members at the factory and adding the personal touch. If you are between 16-18 years of age and are interested in becoming a RAM (Restricted Active Member) ask any SLVFD member for more details. Our members concluded their trip to Ocala with a stop at Firehouse Subs for a much needed lunch.

Recently, members of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department conducted a training drill focused on clear, concise radio communication—an essential skill during high-stress emergencies.
In this exercise, one group of firefighters had LEGO pieces with no instructions, while another group had the instructions but could not see the pieces. Using proper radio procedures, members had to communicate step-by-step directions using brief, accurate transmissions—without any visual reference.
It’s more challenging than it sounds.
Effective communication on the fireground is critical and can directly impact life safety. Drills like this help ensure our members are prepared when it matters most.
