Doug Trussler for Santa Monica City Council

Doug Trussler for Santa Monica City Council My name is Doug Trussler and I’m running for City Council in Santa Monica. This city is my home and I care deeply about its future and its residents.

As a first time candidate, not sure how to gauge a campaign kickoff…That said, with 200+ attendees and the energy we all felt last night, I’d definitely say our momentum is picking up.

Most importantly, last night wasn’t about endorsing bodies, or politics as usual. Last night was about the residents of Santa Monica; residents from all different walks of life, backgrounds and political ideologies, all coming together in common cause: a Santa Monica we’re proud to call home.

I believe we’re at a long-awaited crossroads in our beautiful city. One where for the first time in a long time, the best ideas win regardless of who proposes them, and one where the residents decide their community’s future by electing who represents their interests.

Join us over the next few months, as we connect with Santa Monicans from every neighborhood and every corner of our city.

Santa Monica needs experienced financial leadership. ☑️

I’ve spent most of my life working through complex financial and fiscal problems, and that experience is exactly what Santa Monica needs right now.

Our city is facing a serious fiscal emergency that requires more than short-term fixes. It requires financial discipline, thoughtful decision-making, and a clear plan for long-term stability.

Throughout my career, transparency wasn't optional. It was expected.

In the private sector, leaders are accountable for the decisions they make and the information they provide. I believe residents deserve that same level of honesty from City Hall.

Transparency builds trust. Trust creates accountability. And accountability leads to better decisions.

That's the standard I'll bring to Santa Monica.

Another reason why I love living in Santa Monica? The food.
We have some incredible restaurants throughout the city, and these are just a few of my personal favorites.

Our local restaurants are part of what makes Santa Monica special. Supporting them means supporting local jobs, small business owners, and the character of our community.

Santa Monica is one of the most beautiful places in the world—and I’m proud to call it home.

From our beaches and neighborhoods to the people who make this city what it is, Santa Monica is worth protecting, improving, and fighting for.

I want to see our city continue to thrive for the people who live here, work here, visit here, and love Santa Monica as much as I do.

Santa Monica is a beautiful city, but our economy is struggling. We need a solutions-oriented approach if we want to address these challenges successfully. Vote on November 3rd, so we can fix Santa Monica together.

City Council meetings should be focused, productive, and accessible to the people they serve.

When meetings drag on for hours, information becomes harder to follow, participation becomes more difficult, and decisions take longer than they should.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned that strong organizations rely on clear agendas, preparation, and efficient decision-making.

City Hall should operate with that same respect for people’s time.

Santa Monica’s businesses are not separate from the community. They help create jobs, generate city revenue, and fund many of the services residents rely on.

That is why it is troubling to hear that some major businesses have had little or no direct engagement with City Council.

Good leadership means knowing who your largest employers and taxpayers are, understanding the challenges they face, and treating them as partners in the city’s future.

If we want Santa Monica’s economy to recover, City Hall has to do a better job of listening to the businesses already invested here.

How do we better Santa Monica? By getting back to the priorities that matter most—public safety, supporting local businesses, addressing homelessness, keeping our city clean, and making sure residents have a voice.

Better leadership. Better priorities. Better Santa Monica.
