Monday night was a very special evening for me.

I was honored to receive my 15-Year Service Pin and certification recognizing my years of service to the City of Sanford. While the award recognizes 15 years, I have actually had the privilege of serving this city for 16 years. For the past six years, that service has continued in a different capacity as your elected District 1 Commissioner.

Looking back, I am humbled by the journey. From city employee to elected official, my heart has always been rooted in one thing: serving the people of Sanford. Every neighborhood meeting, community event, difficult conversation, celebration, and challenge has helped shape me into the leader I am today.

Public service is not always easy, but it has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am grateful to the residents who have trusted me, the city staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes, my colleagues, friends, family, and everyone who has encouraged me along the way.

Most importantly, thank you to my community. Thank you for allowing me to serve, for holding me accountable, for sharing your ideas, and for believing in a brighter future for Sanford. I love this city, and I remain committed to working every day to make it even better for the generations that follow.

Here’s to 16 years of service and many more opportunities to give back to the city that has given so much to me.

It was my pleasure to speak with the students of the Goldsboro Front Porch Council’s Y.E.L.D.A. (Youth Empowerment Leadership Development Academy) program and share insights about city government and my role as an elected official.

YELDA provides young people with leadership development, job readiness training, and real-world work experience, helping prepare them for future success. I enjoyed discussing the importance of civic engagement, public service, and the many ways our youth can make a positive impact in their community.

Thank you to the students for your thoughtful questions and enthusiasm, and to the Goldsboro Front Porch team for investing in the next generation of leaders. The future of Sanford is bright, and I look forward to seeing all that these young people accomplish.

A message from our Mayor that I believe deserves everyone’s attention.

As discussions continue in Tallahassee regarding potential changes to property taxes and how those dollars can be used, it’s important that we all understand what these proposals could mean for our city, our employees, and the services residents rely on every day.

I want to be transparent: I am still learning. I have been participating in webinars, watching presentations, reviewing materials, and having one-on-one conversations with professionals and experts to better understand the potential impacts on Sanford. This is a complex issue, and I want to make sure I have the facts before drawing conclusions.

What I do know is that decisions made at the state level could have significant implications for our community’s future. That is why I believe it is important for us to have a public Town Hall discussion that includes our city leadership team, department directors, employees, elected officials, and residents. We need an open conversation about what these proposed changes could mean for city services, public safety, infrastructure, quality of life, and the future of Sanford.

I encourage everyone to take the time to learn about these proposals, ask questions, and stay engaged. The future of our city is too important for any of us to sit on the sidelines.

Greetings Neighbors,

As many of you may already know, the qualifying period officially ended this week and I will be running unopposed for District 1 Commissioner.

So what does running unopposed mean?
Does it mean there’s no opponent, so now I get to relax or coast until the swearing-in ceremony in December?

Absolutely not!

If anything, now is the time to become even more focused, more prepared, and more intentional about the work ahead. While continuing my current duties,
I will absolutely be paying close attention to the upcoming mayoral race just as I’ve encouraged many of you to do. Listen to the candidates, review their platforms, watch their actions, and consider not only what they say they will do, but what they have already demonstrated through service and leadership. I will be focused on how to effectively partner, engage, and work alongside our future leadership to better serve the people of Sanford. Now is the time to prepare for what I believe can be a very important new chapter for our city.

I want to acknowledge our Mayor Art Woodruff. Over these past years, I have learned a great deal from his leadership, experience, and commitment to Sanford. Serving alongside him has given me valuable perspective that I will carry with me moving forward.

The last four years for me have been years of learning, observing, building relationships, understanding systems, challenging leadership and often helping put out fires behind the scenes. But moving into this next term, you will see more of me. My intention is to come from behind the conference table and be even more present, visible, engaged, and empowered to represent YOU the people. Because at the end of the day, public service is exactly that: service. We should never forget that the people are the reason we are here.

This is not “my” city. This is OUR community. Whether you have agreed with every decision I’ve made or challenged me along the way, one thing I hope has always been clear: Sanford means something to me. This is my home. I take pride in this city, and I will continue fighting for its future.

But I cannot do this alone. I will need your help, your ideas, your voices, your presence, and yes sometimes your patience. The strongest communities are built when neighbors work together, stay engaged, and hold each other accountable. I truly believe we have an opportunity to move forward with fresh energy, stronger collaboration, and a renewed focus for our home, Sanford.

I am truly looking forward to the next four years and all that we can accomplish together.

Today, I officially qualified as a candidate for District 1 Commissioner for the City of Sanford.

With God’s grace, and if elected by the people of Sanford, I would be honored to continue serving District 1 for another four years.

My first two years in office came through appointment after filling a vacant seat. That gave the residents of Sanford an opportunity to truly see my heart, my passion, and my commitment to this community before ever casting a vote for me. Four years ago, the people elected me to continue serving and I have never taken that responsibility lightly.

These last four years have been a season of growth, learning, and hard lessons. I educated myself on policies, procedures, governance, and the realities of what elected officials can and cannot legally do. I’ve experienced moments of pride, frustration, and determination. I’ve pushed hard for accountability, transparency, and action sometimes in ways that may not have always been comfortable for everyone involved.

LEADERSHIP IS GROWTH !

What I carry into this next campaign season is not just passion it is experience, knowledge, wisdom, and a deeper understanding of how to effectively move things forward for the people we serve.

I believe elected officials should never forget that we work for the people of Sanford.

If given the opportunity to continue serving, I plan to do so professionally, respectfully, boldly, and collaboratively alongside my fellow commissioners and our new mayor to ensure progress happens in a productive and meaningful way. I now better understand not only how to fight for our residents, but how to navigate the system effectively while standing firmly in the authority entrusted to me by the people.

I remain committed to being accessible, accountable, and a true representative of District 1.

Thank you to every resident who has supported, challenged, encouraged, and believed in me along this journey. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this city that I love so deeply.

The work continues and with God’s grace, the best is still ahead for Sanford.
