Beacon House The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a long-term substance abuse recovery center You can learn more at www.thebeaconhouse.org.

The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a state-certified, residential substance abuse recovery program for men with a sincere desire to achieve long-lasting abstinence from drugs and alcohol. As residents of the Beacon House, the men are provided with food, shelter, counseling, peer group support, educational opportunities and career training through social enterprise programs, including a T

hrift Shop. This allows the men to develop the life, career and social skills they need to build a foundation in recovery, while preparing them for a strong reintegration into the job market and a bright future when they return to their family, home and community. Recently named one of the best addiction treatment centers in the United States by Newsweek Magazine, men from 39 states across the country have received treatment at Beacon House. The organization has grown over the past 50 years to encompass a full city block in San Pedro, California, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, including six residential facilities with the capacity to house 110 residents, as well as a kitchen/dining facility. With the support of our donors and the local community, we have helped thousands of men get a second chance at life and regain their place as responsible, productive members of society.

Our brains learn through repetition. When alcohol regularly becomes the reward after a stressful day or the way we celebrate something good, the brain begins linking alcohol with relief and pleasure.

So even when drinking feels positive in the moment, the pattern can still be moving in an unhealthy direction. Research has linked reward-driven drinking with heavier alcohol use and greater risk of alcohol-related problems.

To escape the heat, we hopped in the vans and headed to Bolsa Chica State Beach for a much-needed day by the water. Our guys swam, soaked up the sun, tossed a football around, and remembered how good it feels to just be a kid sometimes.

We teach our men to take their recovery seriously without taking themselves too seriously. And if that means letting two of your buddies bury you up to your neck in sand, so be it. 😎

It's tough to make the decision to enter treatment.

Most people show up completely worn out but carrying just enough willingness to give it a try. It takes a lot of courage to bet on a life you haven't even seen yet.

September is National Recovery Month, and we tip our hats to every person who's taken that first step of asking for help.

(And sending a little encouragement to anyone still trying to work up the courage).

When Zach came to Beacon House, he had to relearn what it meant to take care of himself. Simple things like getting enough sleep, eating three meals a day, and staying active began to make a noticeable difference in how he felt.

As his physical health improved, the work went deeper, as he began giving the same attention to his mental and spiritual well-being.

Today, Zach is grateful that caring for himself has become part of the way he lives.

Beacon House has been named one of the best residential treatment centers in the country!

For over fifty years, our mission has been simple: help men find a way out of alcoholism and addiction and give them purpose. While national recognition is a wonderful honor, our real measure of success happens out in the real world, long after graduation.

We see our alumni step up as fathers, pursue careers and education, and become men their families and communities can rely on. Those are the outcomes that make this work worthwhile.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make Beacon House what it is today!

Meet Mike and Marcia Schoettle.

For years, they have generously shared their time, talents, and expertise with Beacon House and throughout the local community. Their commitment to service has made a lasting impact on our organization and the men we serve.

As a longtime member of the Beacon House Board of Directors, Mike has helped bring funding to Beacon House that has strengthened our program and created new opportunities for our men. Marcia has spent years tending our gardens and getting to know the men who volunteer alongside her. She generously shares her knowledge of plants and life, offering encouragement and guidance to our men. And she’s never afraid to get her hands dirty.

We’re grateful for the many ways Mike and Marcia continue to show up for Beacon House, and we hope you'll join us in celebrating them at the Heart of Recovery Gala.

Our men recently enjoyed an evening under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl, where they had the chance to hear the Los Angeles Philharmonic perform.

Life at Beacon House involves a lot of hard work every day, so outings like this give our men an opportunity to just relax, have a good time, and participate in life.

It takes a lot of work to maintain our green spaces at Beacon House.

Luckily, we have a crew of guys who are willing to put in the effort week after week.

It feels good to take care of the place you call home, especially when you can step back and see what you've accomplished as a team.

Thanks for all your hard work, guys!

There’s nothing quite like a night at the ballpark.

A group of our Beacon House men recently headed out to Anaheim to catch an Angels game. For one of the guys, it was actually his first baseball game ever.

One of the great things about recovery is that it opens doors to experiences that might have been missed along the way. And this is just the beginning!

Did you know that when you attend a Beacon House Family & Community Bistro, you’re giving our men an opportunity to be of service? From beginning to end, every part of the evening is brought to life by men in our program who are actively working to build lives rooted in character and principle.

The meal is only one part of what makes the Bistro special. The evening will feature stories from both a current resident and a Beacon House alumnus, offering a glimpse into the journey of recovery and the lasting impact of the program.

We host bistros throughout the year, and seats fill up quickly. Join our mailing list (link below) to stay in the loop for the next bistro announcement.
