As a mother of three daughters and the administrator of two San Jose pre-schools, children and their needs have always been my top priority. In the past, I have worked with children with behavior problems. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these children grow and develop. They moved from struggling with sitting in a classroom to being successful students.
Before COVID, I was accustomed to working with younger children, helping them gain the skills they needed before entering kindergarten. But when schools closed, we had a lot of parents who were essential workers. Their older children needed care, so we didn’t shut our doors. We helped these school-age learners with distance learning from March 2020 until the schools reopened. After working with children for so long, I see the need for change and transparency in our local schools.
For the past 26 years, I have balanced my career as an educator and school administrator with raising a family. As a mother, I wanted a good education for my children in a safe environment. I expected them to become proficient in reading, writing, and math while at the same time retaining the family values they learned at home. I am running for the school board to ensure that every child in Franklin McKinley School District receives superior academic training and is returned to their parent with their family values intact.
As a school administrator, I understand the support and backing teachers need to make their classroom a positive experience for their students and the challenges for the administration to stay within a functioning budget. I know this balancing act can be challenging, but I have met this challenge in educating children aged 6 months to 6th grade.
The key to this challenge is for the school curriculum to be transparent to the parents and community, so there is total support to work together. Our common goal is to help our children become positive contributing members of society.
That’s why I am asking for your vote on Nov. 8 for the Franklin McKinley School District board.
