THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
The Gospel writers emphasized the importance of being ready for the Lord. For us today, this means being open to the many ways Jesus comes among us.

In the Bible, Jesus uses vivid imagery of being dressed for action and having lamps burning to symbolize preparation.

We are to be faithful to Jesus and attentive to the ways He comes and knocks on the door of our lives. He will serve us in ways that will amaze us. We will receive from Him in greater abundance when we give to the Lord.

The Gospel encourages people to use their God-given gifts for His glory and suggests that their lives will be more fruitful as a result. This is a lesson the rich man in the parable Jesus told had not learned. His focus on accumulating the goods of this world for the sake of collecting serves as a powerful reminder of the true purpose of our God-given gifts.

Like the disciples, we need to take our stewardship seriously and carry out the will of our Master, knowing that His return is certain, though its timing is unknown.

Keep focused and prepared for His coming.

VERSES:
35 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.
Luke 12:35-38

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
The early church was known for its hospitality, which was rooted in Jesus' teachings.

Like the early church, we should pray with God, sit at Jesus’ feet, and reconnect with God each week through Sunday worship.

These practices will help keep us from worrying and from being distracted by many things.

We can help the world stay connected to what truly matters by sharing Jesus’ love with everyone we encounter.

We can choose the better part, which will not be taken away, for God's glory.

Where do we find ourselves today? Are we sitting at Jesus' feet, listening to Him, learning from Him, and simply loving Him?

Find your place at the feet of Jesus, and be all He wants you to be.

Jesus is worthy of our total devotion. Therefore, the challenge is to gather as a church body to worship Him [at His feet] today, tomorrow, and throughout the year.

VERSES:
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
Luke 10:38-39

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:

In Luke 14:28-33, Jesus gives us two pictures—two metaphors that highlight the same theme: the importance of discernment.

The first picture shows a builder who wants to build a tower. Before starting, he must honestly calculate whether he has enough resources to see it through. This is about persisting to the end.

The second picture is of a king preparing for war. He must consider carefully whether he has the strength to stand against his opponent. If not, he must be realistic and seek peace before the battle begins.

Both images point to the same truth: following Jesus is not a rash, emotional decision. It is a costly, lifelong journey.

Jesus is telling the crowd—many of whom were swept up in the excitement of His miracles and teachings—that discipleship is far more than admiration. It is commitment and surrender.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “The cross is laid on every Christian.” The cross cannot be bypassed; it is part of the road to following Jesus. In fact, Jesus says plainly: “Those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.”

The phrase “give up” is often translated as “renounce,” but it can also mean “say farewell.” In other words, discipleship means being ready at any moment to let go of anything—any possession, any position, even any relationship—that would compromise our allegiance to Christ.

And here’s the challenge: this discernment is not a ‘one and done’ kind of deal. It is ongoing.

Day by day, we are invited to take up our cross again. Day by day, we must discern: What is God asking me to release? Where is God asking me to trust? What is God asking me to step into?

True discipleship requires that kind of honest reckoning. It is the daily work of surrender, not just the initial enthusiasm of a decision.

VERSES:
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
How many of us have asked ourselves what eternal life is?
Here are seven ways for us to see what Eternal Life is and where we can find it:

First, it is a divine life; God’s life is distinct from natural, physical, or human life as we understand it.

4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:4)

Second, it is a present possession; God has already given eternal life, and all may receive it.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. (John 3:36)

Third, it is a free gift; God gave His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we might have eternal life.

3 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:3)

Fourth, it is found in Jesus Christ; God gives us the invisible gift of eternal life through Jesus, who alone can give it to us.

9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9)

In other words, religion, our works, doing good, etc., cannot get you to Heaven; only Jesus can.

Fifth, it is found in those who have received Jesus; God gives those who believe a new identity in Christ.

12 "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Sixth, it is an outward witness; God calls us to be witnesses for Christ, who presents a testimony about the truth we have experienced and heard.

6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” (Galatians 4:6)

Seventh, it is a choice; God gives us the ability to choose between obedience and disobedience. Those who do not possess Christ in their lives and live a holy life will be separated from God.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

Matthew 12:36 says each person will be held accountable for their actions while on earth. Our readiness for Jesus' return is determined by how well we manage the resources He has given us.

A holy life is a process or journey where we strive to be an example of Christ through how we live our lives, care for others, share with others, and share the truth of Jesus.

VERSES:
36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.
Matthew 12:36

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
How many of us have hidden behind locked doors, hoping to keep out those we don’t want to gain access to?

Kids do this to keep out their siblings, teenagers to keep out their parents, college students to keep out their roommates, and adults to block unwanted visitors.

Doubting creates challenges when we cannot see what’s on the other side of the door. Are they friend or foe?

Today's most crucial task is to place trust in Jesus.

We have neither seen nor touched the uniquely resurrected body of Jesus, and we will do so only once we are united with Him.

However, we still encounter the resurrected Jesus and experience the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit.

When we trust Jesus, we invite abundant blessings into our lives.

As believers, Jesus wants us to unite, trust in God, and have complete confidence in God's eternal, unending love for us.

We share our stories to inspire one another in our faith journeys. By rejoicing in God's manifestations, we build a solid foundation of trust in His presence.

Those who embrace this mindset, as Jesus teaches, are blessed with a profound and meaningful connection with God.

God eagerly showers us with grace, offering forgiveness and the gift of His presence. Through Jesus, we find true peace.

VERSES:
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
John 20:19

RESURRECTION SUNDAY
The Good News of Jesus: He is Risen!

This Easter (Pascha), we share the story of Jesus's resurrection. He is Risen! Christ has Risen; let us celebrate Jesus' victory over death. Jesus defeated death, so we don't have to fear it. We serve a Risen Savior!

"He isn't here! He is risen from the dead, just as He said He would. Come, see where His body was lying...2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus...." Matthew 28:6, Luke 24:2-3

Jesus' resurrection demonstrated how much God loves us and Jesus' desire for us to have a personal relationship with Him. Jesus's resurrection gives us hope in a hopeless world when He rolls back the stones of our sinful nature and gives us new life.

We have victory in our risen Savior, Jesus, who freed us from our bo***ge of sin. God's acceptance of Christ's sacrifice on our behalf gives us reason to sing and praise His name, for He is good, and His love endures forever!

Here is how we can share the story of Jesus all year long.
MIND - OF JESUS (INSTRUCTION)...1 COR 2:16

FACE - OF ENCOURAGEMENT (HOPE)...1 THES 5:11

VOICE - SHARE YOUR STORY WITH OTHERS (PROCLAIM THE TRUTH)...TITUS 3:3-7

EYES - SEE THE OPPORTUNITY (KNOWING)...PSALM 19:8

EARS - HEAR THE NEED (LISTEN)...MARK 4:9

HANDS - DO THE WORK (SERVE)...ECCLESIASTES 9:10

FEET - GO IN ACTION (CALLING)...ACTS 26:16

BODY - DO YOUR PART (ROLE)...1 CORINTHIANS 12:12

The Easter (Pascha) Egg
Did you know that Easter eggs, also called Paschal eggs, symbolize the tomb of Jesus and His resurrection? The eggs (real, hard-boiled eggs) are meant to be cracked, broken, and peeled open to reveal the symbolic shell of sin and death. The shell of this world had held humanity captive, but the power of Jesus’ resurrection Easter miracle shattered the shell, freeing those who believe from sin and eternal death.

Amen, we no longer look to an empty tomb (death), instead we look to Jesus (life), who is our eternal salvation.

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
Today is Maundy Thursday.

What does Maundy mean?
The Thursday before Easter [or Resurrection Sunday] is Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday. Maundy is derived from the Latin word "command" and refers to Jesus' commandment to the disciples to "Love one another as I have loved you" in John 13:34.

What does it commemorate?
Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, which Christians consider the institution of the Holy Eucharist, also known as the Lord's Supper or Communion. It is described in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 22. At the Last Supper with His disciples, Jesus breaks bread, saying, "This is my body," and pours wine, saying, "This is my blood." He then asks the disciples to "Do this in remembrance of me."

What holiday was Jesus observing?
The Last Supper drew on Jesus' Jewish heritage and His observance of the Jewish holiday Passover. It was a Passover Seder, the feast of unleavened bread. Jesus and the disciples were eating unleavened bread. Passover is the Jewish festival commemorating the exodus of the Jews from Egypt. When they left so quickly, there was no time for the bread to rise.

Why foot-washing?
Maundy Thursday is also associated with foot washing. Jesus washed the feet of the disciples, an act described in the Gospel of John, chapter 13, as Jesus is teaching them to be servants. It's the ultimate act of "servant leadership." Jesus instructs His followers to love and to serve. Most Catholic churches will have a Mass tonight, with a Eucharistic celebration that includes washing feet.

Maundy Thursday is when Jesus foretells His death.
Jesus foretells His death, saying He will eat no more until the Kingdom of God has been fulfilled. This also marks an act of betrayal. "One of you will betray me," Jesus says. Jesus identifies Judas Iscariot, one of His 12 disciples, as the one who will betray Him.

VERSES:
21 And while they were eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.”
John 13:21

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
Jesus is both fully God and fully human.

He interacts with people compassionately to free them from various forms of oppression. Even the overlooked, outcast, forgotten, and marginalized individuals can witness and experience the love of Christ, even if Jesus must challenge those who oppose Him to make it happen.

Throughout His life, Jesus consistently demonstrated His understanding and acceptance of all.

His actions were a testament to His inclusive nature, as He shared meals with prostitutes and tax collectors, reached out and touched lepers, and formed friendships with societal outcasts.

His teachings, often told of stories, elevated Samaritans and Gentiles, who were traditionally seen as outsiders.

Jesus elevated them to the status of heroes of faith and love.

Jesus meets us where we are. He is one of us, and if we choose Him, He is with us wherever we are.

It is one thing to meet Jesus, but another to follow Him.

Are we fans of Jesus? Or are we followers of Jesus?

What are we willing to leave behind to follow Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior?

True life in Christ begins when a person hears the gospel message, accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and believes it.

God created us for relationships, and Jesus is waiting for us!

VERSES:
"32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Luke 5:32

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
Have you ever looked at the circumstances of your lives the way the prodigal son did when he realized his father's goodness was better than what he had while surrounded by the pigs he oversaw?

The young man's pride gives way to humility as he decides to return to his father to ask for forgiveness and to make himself one of his servants, trusting his father to show compassion and mercy.

The young man's story, a powerful reminder of the importance of repentance, plays a significant role in motivating and encouraging Christians.

Repentance means a change of mind so that we hate the evil we once loved, shrink from the wrong company in which we delighted, and return to God, the loving Father, looking to save people.

Despite the son's past actions, his journey back is a potent source of inspiration for all Christians.

The younger son's story helps us recognize the truth about our sins and rebellion against God, our desire to change our ways, and our request for His forgiveness.

When he returns, the father forgives his son and welcomes him home.

Similarly, God patiently waits for the entire human race to acknowledge their wrongdoings, seek forgiveness, and be lovingly welcomed back.

The kingdom of God isn’t about being perfect and rescuing everyone who deserves to be lost; it is about reminding us that everyone deserves to be found. Heaven rejoices over one sinner’s repentance, the joy of God.

VERSES:
17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
Luke 15:17-20

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS
Satan's deception takes hold in the hearts and minds of those who are perishing. We must trust that God sees everything happening and will punish the wicked at the right time.

The message for non-believers is to repent of idolatry, serve God, and believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

However, for those who believe in Jesus, God offers redemption and justice because God, as a Judge, has affirmed that you are righteous before Him and are worthy of the Kingdom of God.

Believers should be encouraged to endure persecutions and trials, trusting God to punish those who cause hardships.

As believers, we should not worry about punishing those who persecute us, nor should we be concerned about evil people getting away with their sins. God is fair and will treat everyone justly, including those who persecute His people.

Those who believe eternal life is given will live in the Kingdom of God. No more night will exist, for the Lord God will be our light. And all who believe will reign forever and ever with the Triune God.

VERSES:
5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.
2 Thessalonians 1:5

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY
THOUGHTS:
How often do we see ourselves bigger or greater than we are?

Compared to our Creator, we are small.

The ten scouts were correct when they went to examine the Promised Land. We are like grasshoppers compared to God.

What the scouts got wrong is that when we humble ourselves before God, we have nothing to fear; God loves us and will never harm us; His love endures forever.

We serve a risen Savior who is in the world today. He has not abandoned us; He walks with us through our difficult times and struggles.

The good news is that God uses everyone. He does not condemn our past but forgives us and redeems us through the blood of Jesus.

Jesus did not come to condemn, but to save us from our sinful nature. Praise the Lord, we don’t need to carry the burden of sin, but the joy of Jesus in our hearts!

May God’s blessings be on all who do not know Jesus, so that they might hear Him knocking, open the door, and let Him into their hearts.

VERSES:
22 “He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.”
15 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”
Isaiah 40:22 and 1Timothy 1:15
