Deedra Robinson—AVID Site Coordinator, mentor, and educator of 40 years—was recently named Virginia Region 4 Teacher of the Year.

What makes this moment even more special?

She thought she was attending an assembly to speak about AVID… only to discover it was all for her.

From leading AVID implementation to training educators nationwide, Deedra’s impact reaches far beyond her school—shaping classrooms, communities, and futures.

“AVID is my happy place,” she shared—and it’s clear in the way she’s poured into students and fellow educators for decades.
As she prepares for retirement, her legacy is anything but finished. It lives on in every student she’s supported and every educator she’s inspired.
