Blending in with its surroundings

This Baja California treefrog was spotted in Santa Fe Valley.

Their coloring helps them stay well camouflaged, especially among rocks and leaf litter near water.

Seen recently on Highland Valley Trail

Coyotes are a regular part of this landscape, often moving quietly through open areas like this.

They play an important role in maintaining balance in the ecosystem.

If you encounter one, give it space and keep pets close.

Good morning from the San Dieguito River Park ☀️🌿

A quiet morning at Sikes Adobe, low mist over the meadow and a deer moving gently through the grass.

Moments like this are a reminder of how much life is all around us.

Ranger Alex out in the community 🌿

Recently, he spent a full day at San Ysidro Middle School connecting with over 170 students.

Students learned about the watershed, the role of park rangers, and how to safely and responsibly explore the outdoors. Hands-on examples included animal skulls, pelts, and even a look at what different wildlife leave behind.

They also talked through the essentials of being prepared outside, simple things that can make a big difference when spending time in nature.

These moments are a big part of what we do, helping people build a connection to the landscape and understand how to move through it with awareness and respect.

Look closely 👀

Several largemouth bass were spotted in a quiet pool in Del Dios Gorge.

These fish tend to gather in slower-moving water where they can conserve energy and watch for prey.

A good reminder that there’s often more life beneath the surface than we realize.
