Black Police Officers Association (BPOA) Recap: April–June 2026

Over the past three months, the BPOA has remained committed to service, leadership, and community engagement. We celebrated the promotion of Brother Javier Nicolas to Detective, supported the launch of Bell Middle School’s first-ever Junior Cadet Program, continued meaningful conversations through the African American Advisory Board, and invested in the next generation through scholarships awarded to graduating seniors attending Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Howard University.

Together, we are building stronger communities through leadership, mentorship, education, and service.

Black Police Officers Association | January–March Recap

The start of the year has been powerful for the Black Police Officers Association as we continue to build, connect, and lead in our community.

During Black History Month, we partnered with The Mental Bar to host Coffee with a Cop, creating a space for real conversations, connection, and trust between law enforcement and the community. Thank you to The Mental Bar for opening your doors and helping us bring people together in a meaningful way.

We also celebrated excellence through our BPOA Scholarship Awards, recognizing outstanding students who represent the future of leadership and impact. Congratulations to all of our recipients, we are proud of you and excited for what’s ahead.

This quarter also marked a new chapter for the BPOA with the formation of our new Executive Board. With fresh leadership, renewed vision, and strong momentum, the sky is truly the limit for what we can accomplish together.

We want to take a moment to honor Captain Vernon Peterson on his retirement. Thank you for your years of service, leadership, and dedication. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

From community engagement to youth empowerment, we remain committed to service, leadership, and building stronger relationships across San Diego.
