A little about us:
The Navy Ombudsman Program was started by CNO Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, Jr. We are spouses of an active-duty command member and selected by the Commanding Officer. We went through Basic Ombudsman Training and continue with Advanced Trainings throughout the year. Here in San Diego, we are also given opportunities to meet with some of the resources at their place of business to get a more thorough understanding of how they can help our families. We also introduce ourselves and what our role is during INDOC for the sailors that are new to the command. Our sailors know we are a resource for assistance for their families, which in turn allows them to focus on the mission at hand. We are not meant to solve their family’s problems, but to give resources and information to help them to do so. We are also a communication link between the Command and families as needed. We provide resources, information, and local happenings through this page and monthly USS Makin Island Ombudsman Newsletter via email. The resources and information we give out is for servicemembers and their families. Much of the information can be accessed anywhere in the U.S., but some is specific to the San Diego area. Our monthly email newsletter is sent to the addresses provided by USS Makin Island sailors. The sailors can send us an email via their USS Makin Island command email address. They will need to include the recipient’s name, relationship to the sailor, and the email address to have someone added. We ask you to please send any questions or issues to us via Private Message when done so through Facebook to maintain confidentiality. We can also be reached by email at [email protected] or phone at 619-634-6555. Hilary Howell
