This lighthearted video shows our new quadruped robot dog, meeting his new fellow employees at headquarters. It is always difficult being the new employee, but it’s not too tough if you can do neat tricks. Jokes aside, our partnership with HawkRobo Systems allows this high-tech tool to help augment our robotics program. This robot will be used for situational awareness and mapping inside buildings, to enhance firefighter safety whether the building is in normal use or if it is collapsed and we are searching for victims. This robot is smaller than most which allows it to get into tighter spaces. It can also carry air monitoring devices into hazardous materials incidents to check the atmosphere. The goal is safety to our personnel. We will also be using the robot at public education events and to help open the world of robotics to young students.

This afternoon, San Bernardino County Fire, along with Redlands Fire Department, fought a vegetation fire in a dry river bottom area of San Bernardino just south of the San Bernardino International Airport.

This video showcases our robotics program and one of our hand crews. The drone above gives the incident commander a bird’s eye view to enhance firefighter safety, situational awareness, and tactical decision making. The hand crews secure the containment lines with chainsaw and hand tools and walk the fire to survey for hot spots.

The quick actions by the engine companies along with the drone and the hand crew kept the fire to 4.35 acres.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Office of the Fire Marshall.

Last night at 11:30 p.m., San Bernardino County Fire responded to multiple reports of a residential structure fire in the City of San Bernardino. The first-arriving engine company reported a fully involved attached garage of a single-story, single-family residence. Firefighters immediately initiated a transitional fire attack, quickly knocking down the fire in the garage while advancing a hose line into the main structure to prevent extension into the home’s living areas.

Firefighting efforts were closely coordinated with truck company personnel operating on the roof, where ventilation openings were created to improve interior conditions and support firefighting operations. This coordinated strategy proved effective in limiting fire spread throughout the residence.

Firefighters successfully saved multiple animals from the home. No firefighter injuries were reported. One civilian was evaluated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation but refused ambulance transport.

A total of five engines, two truck companies, one battalion chief, one fire investigator, and one public information officer responded to the incident.

Recently, San Bernardino County Fire enhanced its residential structure fire response model by adding a second truck company to residential structure fire assignments in the City of San Bernardino. This additional resource proved especially valuable during this incident, allowing truck company personnel to simultaneously conduct roof ventilation operations, assist with interior searches for victims, and support salvage and overhaul operations.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist four adults and two minors displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Fire Office of the Fire Marshal.
