Wood Middle School is one of 14 middle schools in the North East Independent School District and feeds into James Madison and Theodore Roosevelt High Schools. The school originally opened as Madison Middle School in 1980 (housed at Madison High School). Upon the completion of the new middle school building for the 1981-1982 school year, it was renamed as the John H. Middle School after prominent Judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas who was assassinated on May 29, 1979 in San Antonio. Wood Middle School is a 6th, 7th, 8th grade campus and serves approximately 761 students. Currently a TEA C-rated campus, the administration and teachers are dedicated to the students and campus and continuing to rebuild academic excellence and create a safe and stable environment where students can achieve high standards and become well-rounded students. With the support of a fantastic PTSA, Wood Middle School is being recognized for major strides to make campus and students the best they can be.
