Brackenridge Eagle Miniature Railroad

Brackenridge Eagle Miniature Railroad Former Miniature Railroad in Brackenridge Park San Antonio, Texas now operating as Brackenridge Park Train operated by San Antonio Zoo Huntington trains.

The Brackenridge Eagle Miniature Railroad started building operations in 1956 and officially open to the public June 14, 1957. Prior to grand opening we transported 35,000 riders during testing and other considerations. The first trains were 3 G-16 style trains and we transported 400,000 people the first year over 70% were adults. Ticket prices were at 25 cents and the train was over 1.5 miles tak

ing about 18 minutes per trip. We had 4 depots around the parked, crossed the San Antonio River 2 times and went through a tunnel over 125 feet long. Our Railroad operated year round and was a form of transportation, sightseeing and amusement. In 1961 we started with "Ole Smokey" and it became our # 1 train unit. We sold the train operation in 1967 to some local individual who later sold to a gentlemen who had the snack bar and skyride. He shut down and rebuilt the system to 24" track and started with the C.P. He later sold to the Zoo who now operates the system on a long concession agreement with the City of San Antonio.
