Happy 247th Birthday U.S. Navy!

On this day in 1775, the U.S. Navy was born. For those serving in the Navy Medicine today, October 13th, offers a chance to look back and recognize the important foundations of our Medical Department. Aboard those first ships of the Continental Fleet were the charter members of our One Navy Medicine team—shipboard surgeons and surgeon’s mates—dedicated to providing medical care to our first Sailors and Marines and working to keep these warfighters in the fight. They included Drs. Joseph Harrison and Henry Tillinghast–the first surgeons assigned to Alfred; and Dr. Lawrence Brooks—Bonhomme Richard’s surgeon during its legendary battle against HMS Serapis.

The mission of Wounded Warrior ProjectÂŽ (WWP) is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Now you have the chance to put that mission in motion and bring the WWP Carry ForwardÂŽ 5K to your own community or neighborhood. Every step you take and dollar you raise will help empower wounded warriors as they take on their next mission.

There are three special ways to show your support while you run or walk at your Carry Forward 5K:

1. Carry a flag to show support and patriotism.

2. Carry a weight to represent the responsibilities veterans bear
while serving our country.

3. Carry another person to symbolize
one warrior carrying another
in their time of need.

This 5K event is the 8th of October at the Mission County Park. Registration starts at 0700 am and the opening ceremony will be at 0800.

We will have some members representing the Junior Enlisted Association of Fort Sam Houston participating in the 5K. We encourage all of you to come out and support this mission. We are also welcoming all donations to following link: https://www.facebook.com/donate/813047163447547/?fundraiser_source=whatsapp_share
All the donations will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.
