The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital’s Patient Transport team plays a crucial role in ensuring every Veteran’s visit begins on a positive note. From the moment Veterans arrive, transport staff and four dedicated volunteers greet them warmly and offer clear guidance to help them move safely and comfortably throughout the facility.

Whether providing wheelchairs, assisting with transfers, or helping Veterans reach appointments on time, the team’s reliable support eases stress and sets a reassuring tone for the day. Motivated by purpose and gratitude, these professionals deliver courteous, coordinated care that reflects VA’s commitment to honoring the experience of every Veteran.

Recently, 24 South Texas Veterans competed in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Detroit. Among those Veterans, 61-year-old Veteran Clinton Crumpton received his championship medal while wearing what he called “a new body.”

Crumpton recently joined thousands of Veterans who participate in Department of Veterans Affairs National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events. For each patient VA’s Adaptive Sports and Arts program is a waypoint toward other rewarding and life-changing opportunities.

“Life’s not over, I just got a new body,” Crumpton said.

Visit our website to read Crumpton's story and how the Wheelchair Games impact Veterans and those who serve them alike. Link: https://www.va.gov/south-texas-health-care/stories/south-texas-veterans-shine-at-the-national-veterans-wheelchair-games/
