Adolescent Medicine

Adolescent Medicine The Official page for Military Adolescent Medicine! The military trains physicians to provide world-class healthcare to the adolescent population.

Military Adolescent Medicine leads the way in promoting optimal health and well-being for adolescents and young adults. The main reason for this is to support the service members (whose average age is 20 years old), and also to maintain the health of family members many of whom are teens. Adolescents have unique health needs that are different from children or adults. Adolescence is a transition p

eriod of time between childhood and adulthood full of rapid physical growth, psychological, cognitive, and emotional changes and development. During these years, teens strive to become independent, develop a healthy body image, shape their identity, and form healthy relationships. Many high risk behaviors and health problems that arise during this transition period are the result of vulnerabilities, obstacles, circumstances, and influences that occur along the way. The good news is that most of the health problems and risk behaviors that affect teens are preventable! Our job is to educate, identify, prevent, and treat problems to help teens become healthy and successful into adulthood and beyond. We support the needs of active duty members, dependent adolescents and young adults in order to strengthen the military family, community, and the fighting force.
