Today marks 25 years since September 11. I’m thinking of the people who never came home and the families who have missed them every day since.

I’m also thinking of the first responders who went toward danger and the ordinary people who stopped to help a stranger, even when their own lives were at risk.

Their actions showed us what it means to put others first. We honor their example through the way we lead, serve our communities, and take care of one another.

We will !

Labor Day weekend is a reminder that every community is strengthened by people who show up and do the work.

Strong leadership respects that contribution and the people behind it. Over the years, I've been fortunate to serve alongside those who took pride in doing the job right. Good leaders never forget who makes it all possible.

Thirty-three years ago today, on September 3, 1993, I graduated from the San Antonio Police Department Training Academy.

Looking through these photos takes me back to where it all started. More than three decades in law enforcement have shaped how I lead today, especially how I listen to people and make decisions.

I’m grateful for the men and women I’ve worked alongside throughout my career and for the opportunity to serve San Antonio.

Proud of where it began.

Congratulations to Jesse Salame on his appointment as San Antonio’s next Chief of Police.

Jesse and I worked together at the San Antonio Police Department. More recently, we have reconnected through conversations across the community about public safety, leadership, and the future of our city.

His appointment is a reminder that a title can change in a day, but the trust required to carry it is built over time. Jesse’s career has been rooted in SAPD and the community it serves, which gives this moment real meaning.

Congratulations, Jesse. Wishing you and the men and women of SAPD every success in this next chapter.
